Hi,
Is there a Victoria's Secret or Hanes for Macs? What is this Underware thing? Whatever it is, I keep being told during my exploration of my "old Mac" that it can' be located.

Maybe whoever owned your Mac had UnderWare installed.

It appears to software that is used to create new fonts.

Thank Heaven, it is just a program. I thought it was Mac supplied.

Actually, I was wishing it would be Victoria Secrets for my Mac, of course these boxes are pretty sexy alrready

Being that you're on an older Mac with an older operating system, it is likely that Underware refers to a screensaver that may have been installed on your system at some point.

I had Underware installed on an early system I had, and it was a great screensaver - rubber chickens bouncing over the screen, bank robbers being chased by police cars with sirens screeching and lots more. Can't remember who made it, but I'll probably find a software box out in the garage somewhere and you've fired up my interest as I remember it being great fun, but can't remember exactly what was on it.

If you've got a control panel on your system called Underware (would be in System folder > Control panels or Control panels (Disabled)) then you can probably switch it on, if you haven't, then it's probably been deleted at some point and just left the odd preference file behind.

Found this link which seems to be a potted history of the screensaver and includes a downloadable demo of Underware, which was made by a company called Bit Jugglers and has obvioulsy long since been discontinued.

Not sure about the guy that wrote the site though - ''This material is mostly for the Macintosh, simply because I own a Mac. However, I no longer use a Mac, preferring real computers with real operating systems''.

What?

Good Morning Paul,
Thank you for sharing that. I currently cannot access anything, as I have removed all the wiring/cables and cover to my computer. This was done per the request of another user on another topic I posted. Help/Know Nothing given a Mac 6100/60AV. A University student left it behind when she left this countryto go home. Since I had no computer at all, I was thankful to receive it. For the past several years, I have been using WebTV connected through my local telephone/cable company and my ISP is MSN. It enabled me to do email and surf the web, but I never did anything else with it.
Late last year, I was diagnosed with Cancer and found myself looking for information all over the net. I could not download or even use certain sites due to the limitations of WebTV. I came to this site seeking information to get my "old mac" up and running, to get printing, and to get connected, at some point to the Web. Due to the high costs of medical care, I have severe financial constraints that prevent me from buying a new computer at this time and possibly ever. I can, however, attempt to purchase some small inexpensive things to get started. I hope that this explains my dilemma. Oh, I forgot to mention, I know nothing about computers: hardware or software.

So you have it opened up.

What do you see?

Be careful of Static Electricity. A little shock from that can hurt things.

Touch the large Power Supply to discharge any you have.

Don't open it up while it's still plugged in.

There's more danger of you shocking the parts than you getting shocked.

That power supply steps down the electricity to a few volts.

Hardly more than a flashlight.

While interesting to do, I'm not sure much to be gained by looking at parts.

What we'd most like to know is how much RAM you have.

You do this by going to the Apple Menu and getting About This Macintosh.

Minimum RAM Speed: 80ns
When I removed the cover,
I notated every sticker and bar code number on the hard drive, the CD,the floppy disk.
It is dusty in there and it appears never to have serviced - no scratch marks. I think I had better just put the cover back on now that I have some idea what of what is in there. How do you clean the dust off and should I even attempt it?
Asfor the Motherboard? I have no clue as the things are so tiny I can barely read them.
What is the CD used for and the Floppy Disk? I can start the mac up and see icons an menus. Am I correct in thinking that these are loaded into the memory of the computer?

Mrs. L. I am familiar with those RAM numbers.

Those are what that machine can have.

We want to know how much you do have.

Click on the Apple menu at the top left.

Choose about this computer or something like that.

It will give you some information.

It will tell what number the Operating System Software is.

Probably 7.5.3

It will also give some numbers about Memory.

Could you tell us those please?

Don't worry about dirt for now.

What gets loaded into memory gets hard to explain. At least for me.

Those computer books will explain better.

That CD is where you put computer CDs.

They're just like music CDs but have Data on them.

The Floppy holds smaller amounts of Data.

Both of those will come in handy later.

It looks like you have 16 MBs of RAM. Or 16,000 KBs.

That's Megabytes and Kilobytes.

Kind of like Feet and Inches for Computer stuff.

Probably have what they call Virtual Memory turned on to get more.

You're fine for now.

We'll probably find you some more RAM later.

Another thing.

Click once on your Hard Drive Icon.

Then go to the File Menu and select Get Info.

This will say how big your Hard Drive is.

Give us that number please.

I can't view anything on my monitor. I returned the cover to its' place and reconnected all the plugs; but now the monitor screen is completely black. The light comes on for the Monitor. I just posted this under another Topic.
I am feeling very hopeless, right now. I should know my limitations. I am a classic case of a little bit of knowledge in the wrong hands!
