But what I want to know is how to get my tabs back at the top so they don't waste message space? I suppose I'll search back through all those whiners complaining about tabs not being where they "should be." rolleyes.gif Weren't those two words selected as the two most over used pair in the English language...rant.gif But, isn't fun to watch the whole page jump up/down when you close the last or open the last tab. So much fun, so little time... wallbash.gif

And, what happened to the "New Tab" button? I don't see one until after I create the second tab! Doh! Why have it appear after you already need it? dntknw.gif Although Apple very sneakily has an extremely similar looking button on the left-hand end of the location bar, that turns out to be a bookmark button, as if I'd use Safari to keep my bookmarks! nono.gif

Huh...I didn't realize they'd reverted to the tabs on the bottom with the final release of Safari 4! I've been running the beta for ages and haven't done any updates for a while because I was in the middle of various projects.

There's a whole thread on the Apple forums with people lamenting the reversion.

One person notes "There is still a + sign on the far right to add new tabs - and I accidently discovered that if you double click in the blank gray tabless area, a new tab will open. " - so not having the final version, I can only go by what they say.

BTW - if you want to revert to one of the earlier (beta) versions, you can download Webkit. I have r41128 and it's still got the tabs on top. I run Webkit and Safari - you can have two completely different versions that way. Anything prior to June 8 should have the tabs on the top. smile.gif

EDIT: actually ALL the versions of Webkit public beta 4 have the tabs on top - I just downloaded the most recent one and voila - still there!! It's absolutely as stable as Safari in my experience - I use it as my primary browser. Now I'm going to go tell the folks on the Apple forum that there is a solution! biggrin.gif

Yes, but, in my version, anyway, not until after the first new tab is opened. There are no 'tabs,' of course, with just one site open. After a second site is open, then there is the 'normal' "+" button. But I'm almost positive (OK, 5050!) that the "+" button was always there in the beta. Not a really big problem, I usually just command-click and open a link in a new tab, anyway. But sometimes I want/need a completely new tab for various reasons and don't have a link to click nor do I remember doh.gif the oh-so-simple, command-T shortcut! wallbash.gif blush-anim-cl.gif Plus, I just need at least two things to complain about each day... rolleyes.gif

Yes, the plus sign is always there in the beta.

And has been documented on the Apple forums, apparently if you download the latest build of Webkit and install when running Safari 4 (not beta) you still have tabs on the bottom. You can however download Safari 4 beta here: http://www.freemacware.com/category/mac-internet-freeware/

I assume that I have tabs on the top in Webkit's latest build because I'm still running Safari beta 4 and somehow or other, they share something (other than preferences and bookmarks!). It's a little weird, needless to say.

Anyway - you could try downloading and installing the latest version of Webkit after installing/reverting to Safari beta 4 and see what happens. Webkit would have the advantage over Safari 4 beta of being the latest in terms of security updates etc. However, be aware that you can't use plugins with Webkit. (I haven't found a need for them anyway - if I want plugins, I have Firefox)

I installed Safari4.0.2 yesterday, and have had no problems.

Leading — Bleeding or whatever Edge, I'm happy.
