There are dozens of things that many users, both old hands and new comers, never get around to even knowing about, much less using/doing on a Mac. One very simple and extremely useful thing is 'Customizing' ones ToolBars. Many programs have this option, but <this Theme Forest article> is concerned with the Finder. It is also very top heavy on using Apple Script. But almost anything can be put in the Tool Bar and this article might get you started on some Apple Scripts that will be a help to you. All this stuff is free, of course! And you've already got every thing installed. Thinking.gif

If you've customized Finder windows, why not share what you've done? Screen shots would be nice, of course. All you really need is the Tool Bar area, so the images should be pretty small, byte wise...

Remember back with OS 9 when you could download the Kaleidoscope 'skins'. They were really sort of funny, but really changed the whole desktop. All the icons were with what ever theme we chose, every title bar, just about everything, I think even the cursor too.
Some were really quite bizarre, I chose the dog one. Gee I cant find that picture, but its here in my massive iPhoto albums somewhere.

Well, I was really talking about 'useful' customizations. "Skins" don't usually allow any improved use of Finder. The Tool Bar is where most of what I'm talking about occurs. It's where one would put uhmm...tools.

Interesting article. I've never heard of "droplets", so I'll have to research that. I have customized my finder toolbar, and here's a pic:



The heart is a graphic I use for a folder I created called "Favorites", and I keep aliaseseses of favorite things there. The rest you probably know.

I usually have a Finder window much wider than this, usually at least five columns. I didn't even know I could remove the View choice icon, but I'm thinking about removing that, also. Just as I never use Spotlight, I never use that View choice thing, and both items are just a key stroke away, anyway. smile.gif

I'm really using the Tool Bar as a 'dock.' But my mouse is more often at the top of the screen than the bottom, so this is easier for me. And my 24" iMac's screen is rather tall... YMMV.

A Droplet is just an applet, I think. They are basically AppleScripts that you 'drop' something on to activate them, just like dragging a file onto an apps icon to open it. I don't have enough repetitive tasks to see a need for AS. Nor have I been able to make an Automator 'app' that didn't require me to write an AS for it to use. dntknw.gif Like I say, again, I'm not repetitive, I'm not repetitive, I'm not repetitive, I'm not repetitive.
