Skype on a MacBook
« on: October 31, 2009, 02:32:36 AM »
Got a pal with problems and I'm hoping we can find some answers:

QUOTE
Okay folks, got a question for you smart people out there. Is it possible that a relatively new Mac would not jive well with Skype? I have been having tremendous pains, as some of you know, trying to deal with my internet. In particular, video chatting via Skype or gmail. Some of my beezos tell me that Macs don't like video chatting and I just don't buy into that. However, they all seem to have no troubles with their set up. Any guidance out there?

I've got a MacBook running OS X ver 10.5.6
Skype is version 2.7

He thinks it might be a bandwidth issue but those with PCs seem to be plugging along just fine.

I don't use Skype, so I'm no help at all. I told him I'd ask the fine folks here.

I have no trouble using Skype on my MacBook - for phone calls, video calls, chat. I have Core 2 Duo MacBook (now running 10.6.1, but Skype also worked with 10.5.6-8) and Skype (version 2.8.0.722, but 2.7 versions also worked). I suspect the problem is not with your macBook but with your Internet provider.

IAWR.....

Have used Skype with my sister in Seoul, S Korea and have no problems.

Have also 'tried it out' with some of my iChat buddies and, again, no great problems.

That being said.... I greatly prefer iChat over Skype for convenience and available 'extras'.  Can't do conference videos w/Skype without a lot of add ons.

But if you are 'connecting' to PCs on the other end.... it's the only show in town...
