Caution re: comments following article - anti-Mac vitriol alert rolleyes.gif

Me? I say good for Apple - they're a HARDWARE company, which a whole lot of people out there fail to comprehend.

It probably won't take too long (a couple of months, even less) for these guys to figure out another "root" ! tease.gif I'm sure Apple wants to keep this as difficult as possible, of course. Perhaps a check value in each machine and a corresponding one at an Apple server that initiates a 'conversation' between the two until Apple decides the machine has the right "genes"? This will continue until one side determines it's not worth the effort. And Apple has some pretty deep pockets and several hundred bodies to throw at the problem. Of course, the other side may have fewer people and much less capitol, but the one thing they have is time. It would seem to me that Apple could come up with multiple schemes and have them ready for each scheme the hackers figure out. Maybe even before they figure out the current scheme. One step ahead, so to speak. dntknw.gif As long as they match the hardware and software quality, I won't be opting for any Hackintosh. Especially ones that are only marginally cheaper than the real thing. But, except for a few companies that see a profit in making these machines, I don't think most of this work is done for any more than the 'fame' of doing it. Some people thrive on these kinds of challenges, and sometimes good comes out of it. At least some people are learning a lot of information that would be very costly to obtain, otherwise. dntknw.gif

I'm not sure, however, that my grandkids, kids will even know that Apple used to make "computers". wink.gif

Hmmm, never quoted myself before....

Anyway, seems a lot of the posters that came after me agreed with what I had to say.  ("kris" is my post in case you didn't figure it out)

Jim, I have a feeling you would not be able to reply to a lot of threads if we removed these smilies from the list... tease.gif dntknw.gif rant.gif

"A picture is worth a thousand 8-bit words!" Or is it, "An animated emoticon is worth a thousand two-bit words"? dntknw.gif

My wife will also tell you I am the wurst sepler n the wurld! But I read an on-line article yesterday in a very prestigious news paper, that was so full of grammatical errors that half the comments were about that rather than the subject matter! "Wher is your poof reeder?!" rofl.gif

As for comma's and apostrophes', I think they add 'color' to my prose, so I scatter them, liberally throughout, all, sentences'. tomato.gif scram.gif

This rumour caused a lot of debate over at ehMac.com too - even some Mac owners don't seem to understand Apple's business model - though the one that accused me of a "straw man" argument then retreated into saying "but I was just wishing..." rolleyes.gif
