Larry bought Newer Tech in 2001.
QUOTE
One of the building blocks of OWC is Newer Technology. That company, formerly based in Wichita, was well-known for processor and memory upgrades in the 1990s. However, even as the company got into trouble, the original founder worked hard to take care of his customers before the company went under. In 2001, Mr. OiConnor bought Newer Technology for its name recognition and some core technologies. Today, it is the research arm of OWC. Products are designed at their joint facility in Woodstock, Illinois, fabricated by subcontractors, but ultimately assembled and packaged in Woodstock.
Doesn't say where the fab takes place (and yes, it may well be offshore) but Newer Tech make products just like Apple makes products.
Ain't no way ADSR is dealing with OWC.
I just made a suggestion to them regarding their international shipping info on their newly redesigned web site and got a very nice email back from Kayleen Ivers in response. It wasn't a canned response, either. So I made some further suggestions (hoping they'll add USPS/Canada Post as a shipping option, since brokerage is a flat $5, which is waaaaay less than the robbers at UPS and your former employer charge.
) Just to be clear...I have no quibbles about the delivery service itself - it's the darn brokerage, which is pretty simple on things for which the shipper has provided all the required paperwork. If Canada Post can do it for $5, there is no excuse for UPS (for instance) charging $19 MINIMUM on anything costing more than $20.
