Sending E Mail
« on: February 17, 2003, 10:42:00 AM »
6500, 250, Outlook Express 5.2, OS 8.6. What is the best way to send Email to PC's and AOL? . Does Copression Matter?.
I have complaints from some that say they can't open my mail, i think some aren't set up right. I would like to have a easy set up for them. Thanks Again.

Are you talking about attachments to your e-mail? It would make a difference whether you're sending them to someone with a Mac or a Windows owner. But, the e-mail message itself should be opened easily on either. It shouldn't matter what e-mail program you're using, or which one the receiver is using.

I don't use OE but shouldn't there be a html pref that you can turn on or off?

Then again I could be off my rocker thinking the html bit.

Sending Attachments to PC's, Do i have to send differently for Mac  and for PC?. Almost all attachments are opened for me by Internet Explorer. A few like .exe , Dos , won't  open  but  i don't want to anyhow. I thought i sent them like i got them, but Mac must change  either coming in or going out. Help Would be appreciated.

Ok, sending attachments. It still doesn't matter what e-mail program you use. What matters is the word processor, image file, ...whatever you created the attachment in. So, what kinds of things are you attaching, and what programs are you using to create them, and what versions of those programs do you have?

My PC-using correspondents report that they have no trouble opening my attachments when I append a 3-character extension to the filename (such as .jpg or .doc).

When I forget to do that, they often have trouble opening my attachments.

Mac users can open my attachments with or without the extensions.

If you're forwarding images on that someone else sent you from a PC (did I get that right?) then those images must have a three character suffix in their filenames. If they are jpegs, they would be called filename.jpg and there should be no reason why another PC user, or Mac user could not open them, presuming they have an application for viewing images that works on their platform. I use JPEG Viewer on my Mac. Hope this helps. I'm not sure if I've understood you completely.

Thank you all, I was in html which i understand is wrong. I changed to Plain Text, MIME/Base 64 in my prefrences. I'll see how that works.
