No LCD Backlight when trying to install new OS
« on: March 02, 2010, 02:29:30 PM »
On a MacBook Pro 1st Generation
currently running Tiger
I tried to update the OS to Leopard 10.5 and when I boot to the install disc, the LCD backlight does not work, and I can not read the screen or adjust the backlight (the screen is only readable when it is lit by an outside light)

How do I fix this problem?
Does this mean I can not install a new OS because the screen backlight won't work, or if i went ahead with the install would the computer function normally?
This account isn't hacked...
I'm actually back from hiatus (and its about darn time too)!

You are not alone, apparently...

If all else fails, it looks like the solution is a powerful flashlight until the install is finished - at which point things return to normal. Very weird. Of course, I'd try the PRAM and PMU resets too, in case they work.
