Stolen laptop finds its way home
« on: March 04, 2010, 08:33:29 AM »
Stolen laptop takes picture of the thief, thief gets identified, laptop gets back to the owner. On NE cable news this morning.

They interviewed the owner, and he said it was extremely easy to do, the software to do this tracing/tracking picture things, was free and installing it was very easy.
Anybody know what that would be?

Sadly the thief was not arrested after the computer was recovered due to 'insufficient evidence'. The news guys had quite a lot to say about that.
Pretty stupid if you ask me, if that is not evidence, what the heck is.

Just found this site, great info, pretty neat the way this stuff works.
http://www.orbicule.com/undercover/mac/

But if the Mac was recovered and the thief got off scott-free, wouldnt that send a message to the perp to try it again?

The program costs $49
and even comes with a "nothing special" Money Back Guarantee!!

QUOTE
Money-back guarantee (x2)
We are so confident that Undercover will enable us to recover your Mac that we offer you two money-back guarantees. If we can not recover your stolen Mac, we will fully refund Undercover (2). Of course we still offer our traditional money-back guarantee: if you are not satisfied with Undercover, you will get a full refund within 30 days of purchase. No questions asked.

Yea... that surely makes me feel better! I only would need another $2451 to replace my stolen computer...

Ive got a new post coming, our local tiny Mac store was put out of business because its sister store was robbed in the worst town on CapeCod.
I will compile the info and have it up tomorrow.
They cleaned out the store,, and the cops dont have a clue, as Hyannis is full of bad people and the police are way outnumbered. Our jails wont hold these guys even if our dumb-bunny judges could ever get a conviction.
Its really bad there.
So the community of small business people are moving out of Hyannis! The druggies are winning, Hyannis cops cant keep up with this.

Our town is not having the same problem, as everybody knows who is who here.

I will post this information later, as its a sad thing to see a little Mac store hit by a robbery and the financial loss was enough to sink them.
I now have the videos.

This story oops.gif made the news in Philadelphia a few months ago. the picture of this genius was so perfect his mom could have put it in her living room. (I'm sure she was proud.) rolleyes.gif judge.gif

A couple of IMacs, an iPad, a bunch of iPhones...two of which don’t live here, but I still pay for. Oh yeah, wife, daughters, and yes—a grandson!

Sadly the software was not on the computers, they were all in their original boxes. The robbers had a truck outside the door.
