Snow Leopard

Until VERY recently I/we have had 2 G4 PB's and an Intel based Mini running OSX 10.5.8. One of the PB's was stolen and I am awaiting delivery of a new (refurb) 2.53 13.5" MBP to replace it, which will come with some version  of OSX 10.6  My question(s) are:

I am confident that the MPB install disks will be machine specific and in all likely hood will not install on the mini.

Is there a way to install SL on the Mini using them ie: external drive?  OR???

The MINI and the new MBP will NOT be synchronized as they serve 2 different masters. Is it legal or am I required to purchase a separate version for the mini??

Just FWIW  everything is backed with a bootable back-up(s).

Is it possible? Yeah, it's possible (think clones) but no, it's definitely not legal. The EULA states that the OS is to be installed on one computer at a time:

A. Single Use License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, unless you have purchased a Family Pack or Upgrade license for the Apple Software, you are granted a limited non-exclusive license to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer at a time. You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-branded computer, or to enable others to do so. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time.

The upgrade to Snow Leopard is a mere $29.

And it will install on any intel machine you get/have. Whether it's suitable for the mini's intel cpu/RAM is another story. Thinking.gif

I don't think it will have any problems running SL, Jim. smile.gif

I don't know if Daryl has the older Mac Mini at 1.83GHz or the newer one, but this thread was about the older one and the poster was happy, as predicted.

Thanks for the link.  That is the exact model of my mini. Given the way it is used it sure looks like it will be no problem with SL, and if there are any noticeable performance degrades I will certainly up grade the memory. It is a great little machine for what we do.

Thanks

Thanks for that link, Paddy. I haven't bothered to upgrade the mini at church to SL, but the extra drive space sound like a good reason! smile.gif It does very little except three times a week during recording the services. Well, the rest of the time it does the Stanford Folding thing, but at barley a third of the speed of our other Macs. Two cores on one chip sounded good but it just wasn't optimized yet...or Tiger doesn't get much use of of them...
