Quicktime Registration
« on: March 07, 2010, 03:07:34 PM »
Hi all,
Apparently when I  bought my MacBook Pro some many months maybe a bit over a year ago, I didn't register my QT with Apple.  First, doesn't a new computer come with QT Pro installed?  Anyhow I want to copy a QT video which is on my MacBook Pro and can't seem to do it, because when I open QT all of the PRO stuff is grayed out. Can't find my paperwork and have no KEY.  Anyone know how to get your key from Apple?

TIA
Roy

Apple never gave away QuickTime Pro that I know of. At least not until Snow Leopard. QuickTime Pro no longer exists. QuickTime X now can edit (sort of) movies and it will capture your screen actions as well...I've never had the Pro model that I can remember, so I don't know what you want to do with it... Apple might be able to find your details. dntknw.gif

Not sure I even understand what the "copying" problem is, anyway. Assuming you have a network setup, dragging the QuickTime movie from one Mac to the other is about as simple as it gets. I don't understand the need for "Pro" anything just for copying a QuickTime movie. dntknw.gif Of course, 'sneaker' net still works, especially with thumb drives! smile.gif

Exactly what are you missing that Apple "stripped?"

QuickTime Pro is still available, apparently: <QuickTime Pro for X>

Perhaps you've installed Snow Leopard? <QuickTime x vs. QuickTime Pro>

If you already have QuickTime Pro, you probably don't need this (nor spending another 30 bucks!): <QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component>

I've been considering going to Quicktime Pro for OS X (I've already got it for OS 9 and I can still use it to do "most" of what I need to do on one of my computers) but sometime that won't be possible.  XABD, that final link doesn't go anywhere for me!

Later: I went to a link for Quicktime MPEG-2 Playback here

http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A...mco=MTA4MzM5NDU

And apparently you do need it if you're doing MPEG-2 stuff.  Does this link work?

I copied that link from a post on the Apple Forums and failed to check it! blush-anim-cl.gif Thatt maekz thee furst errorr fore thee yeer! eek2.gif You're also correct that the file is for accessing MPG-2 "stuff." I downloaded (and paid, of course) it a few months ago trying to work around the non-user-friendly iMovie/.mov files problem. Turns out the file (and the expense) was un-needed. I could sure use the 30 bucks for something more useful... sad.gif

I never found the need for the Pro expense, especially when Apple charged another $30 every time they 'improved/updated" QuickTime. Now, Snow Leopard can record your screen and I have at least two other apps that can make video. rolleyes.gif And, they are both upgraded for free! clap.gif I'm not sure what Apple wants QuickTime to become, but their nickel and dime attitude wouldn't seem to benefit anyone but them. dntknw.gif

Maybe I just need to go take a nap... Thinking.gif laughhard.gif

I suspect you could find a need for Quicktime if, like me, you couldn't run Snow Leopard on any home system!
