Scroll on Magic Mouse hanging
« on: March 17, 2010, 04:46:06 AM »
I have found that when I try to vertical scroll by swiping my finger vertically on the Magic Mouse, it sometimes hangs. The to get it to scroll, I have to manually scroll. Than sometimes scrolling works. Also, I find under certain conditions when I move the mouse pointer to a new location, the mouse moves, but the pointer lags for a fraction of a second. This problem is intermittent and sometimes the scrolling works perfectly and I can control the length of the scroll just using my finger.

I submitted the same problem on Apple's support page but have yet to get an answer. I cannot call Apple Tech support as the mouse is not covered under Apple Care.

Any ideas?

Have you tried new batteries, Tom? That behaviour sounds a lot like what I get (delayed reactions etc.) with my Logitech when it needs new batteries.

I can't find anyone with the same problem you're reporting - lots and lots of scrolling complaints, but mostly that it doesn't work at all.

It's possible that it's defective - can you call your local Apple store about getting a replacement?

Maybe the scroll "wheel" needs cleaning. Soap and water should do the rick. tease.gif Actually, one of the reasons I don't use those touch sensitive devices is because I get such lack of respect that even those kinds of things won't pay attention to me... tears.gif I guess I'm "virtually" invisible? eek2.gif laughhard.gif

Paddy,

According to the preference Pane,  the mouse batteries are at 54%. So that's not the problem although I will install new batteries. After 55 years working with electronics nothing surprises me especially trusting a software "meter".

XABD,

The Magic Mouse does not have a scroll wheel. I tied everything including a soft touch, a hard touch, and throwing the damn thing against the wall. For the latter, nothing happened except the mouse sulked for a few hours. I also tried washing my scroll  finger and then dipping it into alcohol. Again nothing happened. The scroll works via a capacitive effect and it may be at my age (77) I don't have enough electrostatic charge! verysad.gif I did tried rubbing my hand on my cat and also shuffling my shoes on the rug. Didn't help. So tomorrow, I am off to the doctor where they are going to hook me up to an electrostatic sphygomometer. The doctor did warn me that lack of charge could be due to a genetic effect or to old age.        laugh.gif
