Various iPad news bits...

NBC changes mind on streaming TV shows to the iPad, AKA another bone-headed decision from the network that has fallen to the bottom of the pile:

(read the comments too wink.gif )

Meanwhile, Amazon has updated the Kindle app for the iPad:

Smart thinking from Amazon. I'm sure it will make a LOT of people very happy to have choice in where they purchase their e-books. While ultimately, the Kindle itself may suffer somewhat, bottom line - Amazon is in the business of selling books. The hardware upon which to read them is just another way to get people to read MORE books, purchased from Amazon, of course.

Wow - that article is by Stephen Fry!! (All you Brits will know immediately who that is!) Stephen Fry - of Fry & Laurie (Hugh Laurie, of House fame), Blackadder, Jeeves & Wooster etc., many books and wonderful TV shows & documentaries, charity work AND he's got to be the biggest Apple fan on the other side of the pond, though he's not averse to criticism when he thinks it's warranted. He owned the second Mac sold in Europe - his good friend Douglas Adams had the first. He writes a very funny and interesting tech blog, as well as tech reviews for the Guardian, though he hasn't been writing a lot lately since he has been working on the second installment of his autobiography under deadline.

And I can only try to imagine the excitement Mr Adams would be experiencing with the iPad! thumbup.gif I think he must have had a big impact on the lives of many at Apple. I know of one in particular. wink.gif

If you can afford the time to read it...<Ars Technica reviews the iPad>
QUOTE
The best way for us to sum up our collective and unanimous conclusion on the iPad, is to say that it's the first device to substantially deliver on the promise made by the iPhone and, in some respects, the Newton. Both of these earlier Apple products gave us glimpses at what a real, usable, purpose-built tablet computer might one day look like, and the iPad at long last gives us the complete picture. So in a sense, the iPad is both the end of a long journey and the start of a new one. We can't wait to see where it takes us next.
