My SCSI Scanner has died.

My trusted old ScanMaker II has scanned its final scan into the SCSI port of my 9500.

I have an Epson GT-5000 which was donated (new) but which has a parallel connection.

I've seen that USB to Parallel cables exist but the descriptions always refer to making a connection to a printer - scanners are never mentioned.

Can I use such a cable with a scanner or are they really suitable only for printers?

Or, should I look for a Parallel to SCSI cable? Do they exist?

I didn't know. But I found this.

"USB to parallel port converters are for printers only! All-in-one units            (printer/fax/scanner) or scanners, zip drives, etc. will not work with            any USB to parallel port converter currently available."

Is there something extra special about that scanner? Besides free?

Scanners are cheap. You could get one for the price of a converter practically.

Well, they seem like pretty definitive statements to me!

Yes, I can get a basic scanner for around £90 ($150) and suppose that's what I'll have to do.

I was hoping a £25 cable would have solved the immediate (and urgent) problem.
