OT.... a cautionary tale
« on: February 19, 2003, 07:50:00 PM »
I downloaded SpeedDownload the other day, installed it, decided almost immediately that it wasn't for me, uninstalled it (I thought) & boy, I thought I was never going to get rid of it.

I'm running 10.2.4 & Speed Download put files in at least a half dozen places. I went thru the User's library 4 times until I got it all rooted out. It was in Safari, Explorer, Contextual Menu folder. prefs, you name it.

BTW, Sherlock kept reporting no files left but when I'd try to use the download manager with either Safari or IE a message would come up "sending this URL to Speed Download" & then Safari would crash. ...so back I'd go to the library again & start looking. I ended up opening every single folder in User's/Library.

Finally got it done. Never again. iGetter & Speed Download is not for me.

Never heard of it. Thanks for the warning.

"Our aim with Speed Download is to have it fully integrated within the operating system, so that it feels like it was always there, or rather always supposed to have been there," Yazbeck said. "Our test labs, as well as some of our select customers have all returned very positive feedback."
