Where is my ringtone?
« on: July 01, 2010, 05:52:42 PM »
Hello, all!

I downloaded a new ringtone from the iTunes store onto my iPhone; but it does not show up in my list of ringtones. What happened to it?

Hope everyone is doing great approaching our country's birthday!

Lorraine

Hi Lorraine! I don't own an iPhone, but others apparently have wondered the same thing. Here's one answer, in case you haven't checked this spot:

QUOTE
Ringtones for the iphone? I can't find it?
I made a ringtone and it is in my phone now, but how do I find it? my dad called me, and it still was the default one that comes with the phone? How do I find it?

Additional Details
I synced it* that's what I mean, so it definetly is IN my phone, but where is it? it doesn't show up on the list of ringtones?

Answer:

click settings
sounds
ring tone
then scroll all the way to the top. it should be under "custom" ringtone, just above "standard" ringtones

Thanks, Paddy ... Unfortunately, it is not there under "Custom" either, but there are 4 other ringtones I purchased (one for each member of my family). I also sync'd my iphone, and the ringtone is now both in the iPod icon on my iphone and in the computer iTunes. It is just NOT listed under "Sounds, Custom" nor in the ringtones available to assign to Contacts.

I think the audio file must have the 'correct' suffix for the iPhone to recognize it as a ringtone. It also must be less than the maximum length (although that may not be a hard and fast rule). I think you can actually 'make' a ringtone from any .aif (and maybe mp3) file by simply changing its suffix to the appropriate three (or whatever) letters. I will admit, however, that I have not verified that. I just use the highly appropriate "Klaxon" for my wife's numbers and couldn't care less about any others! blush-anim-cl.gif laughhard.gif

Well, since I downloaded a ringtone from the Ringtones site right ON the iPhone, it should be usable as-is. It may be, but it's just not available in the Sounds section, under Custom or other. It is listed in the iPod section.
