Anybody know about setting up iChat?

Next monday an Apple Sales Representative is coming into our conference room to do an iChat and seems contented to wing it (hasn't asked for help or given information about requirements).  I'm sure he'll be okay but I would be more comfortable knowing something about the process at least!  Anyone with experience or at least one of the following:

Mobile Me Account
Mac.com Account
AIM Account

non MAC alternatives:

Jabber Account
Google Talk Account

I "suspect" the top two are pay as you go or want my credit card.  Not sure about anything America Online has had anything to do with.; I have a Gmail account I don't use so it's probably closed or full of spam.  Am I even asking the right questions?

All you need is a free AOL account or something similar. iChat has that capability built in. Haven't used it in maybe a year, so I can't be much more help. The texting method can probably get by with a dial-up connection, of course. But the image/video method will obviously require a high speed connection. It can also be used to transfer files between viewers, of course. One nice use is a three-way meeting, but that does, I think, go easier with all three using a Mac. dntknw.gif

RHP and Highmac are probably the experts here on iChat.

BTW, Mobile Me and "dotMac" are one and the same, now. My granddaughters picked up a Jabber account for use with iChat, probably many other sites will work, also. iChat might even have a list of compatible domains in its Help pages...OTOH, most "Help" pages are very "helpful"... rolleyes.gif

If you've EVER had a .mac account, the address is more than likely still valid.  Everything about iChat resides "out there" except the actual software to make the initial connection.  Even your 'buddy list' is not on your computer but attached to your account on the internet.

As ABD said, conference calls are a snap, but the more 'chatters' you add the fuzzier the pictures become, unless you have a super high bandwidth pipe. And then it may also depend on each of the conferees connection also.

Lately I have had much better results with Skype calls, but I'm sure your rep. wouldn't want to hear that... and conferencing is more of a hassle with Skype.

I'll try it guys I guess I was showing my AIM predudices again!  rolleyes.gif I'm going to see what I can coax out of my desktop iMAC today if I can get a round tuit!
