Pulling this from another thread ...

QUOTE
For some reason I'm just seeing this post.

Check the Display mode under "options" on the top right hand side of the thread. You've probably got it set to "outline" instead of "standard."

Safari is no different in how it displays the forum than Firefox or any other standards-compliant browser. wink.gif

I double checked and I'm set for Standard.

I've been noticing some real oddities with Safari ever since I set it as my default browser. When I reach TS, I click the View New Posts link on the front page. That opens up a page(s) of all the new posts (from all forums) since my last visit. At least that's the way it's supposed to work -- and that's how it does work in Firefox. Ever since I switched to Safari, it's all gobbledygook. Posts are marked as new when they are days old, some new posts never show in the "list", other posts that I've read show up marked unread. It's very frustrating.

I find that at many sites I have to log in every time I visit, even though I set it to keep me logged in; and again it worked in FF, but not in Safari.

I've trashed prefs, cookes, and the cache.

Would sure like to find a fix for this, otherwise I'm going to have to return to FF. sad.gif

I've experience some of the same oddities.  I don't use the View New Post though.  I just go to a forum and the threads with new posts have an additional icon next to them to identify recent activity since I was last there. Then I click on that icon and it takes me to the next new post in the thread.

However, sometimes I will read all the new posts then refresh the page only to see a couple threads I had read earlier or even the day before showing the icon for new posts. When I open that thread it does not have anything I hadn't already seen.  It may be the forum software that is not being translated properly by the browser or it may have something to do with the board's update timing.

Wish I had a better answer.  wink.gif

I view things the same as above, so I've not seen your problem, which is, after all, doing things differently! rolleyes.gif I don't understand why people don't do everything as I do and then complain because they have problems. Eye never hav nie pronouns, eivun mye spel chekur works purficklie!!!

Actually, I have noticed, very occasionally, that the data about what I've read is not accurate. I think it is a problem with the forums database. That where that kind of data should be stored, IMHO. But I was wrong once...

I just remembered that I sometimes have to log in when I access TS from my iPhone. That's usually because the log in from that IP has timed out. Which leads me to believe that the forum software maintains your IP address and the time of your last visit when determining what threads are new. It may also be writing a cookie with your user name/password and checking for that before allowing a non-log in procedure. But I still think it keeps tract of your last visit date in its own database.

DBs do get corrupted, occasionally but simply changing your profile/settings, saving them and then putting things back like you want them should re-write that info, twice, hopefully creating a clean source of info. I really don't see why any particular browser would make any difference.

I seriously do encourage your use of the 'standard' (approved!) view of the forums; the plain list of topics in each side. The new posts automatically show at the top of the list. It does require a couple of clicks to get from on 'side' to the other, but you also get a chance to see who's on line, each time you switch...and see who might have a B'day... inspect.gif Just a word to the 'wise.' whistling.gif

Krissel, thanks. I guess it's nice to know I'm not alone. tongue.gif

ABD, I've always done things differently and I'm too old to change my ways now. laugh.gif Birthdays? Did I miss yours? No wait, yours isn't for several months yet. tease.gif Love the quote, btw.

Whatever is causing this, it's an issue between "X" and Safari since it doesn't happen in Firefox. It's frustrating at times.
