Damaged monitor have any value?
« on: October 29, 2010, 08:44:38 PM »
I have a beautiful, flat 20" Apple Display 2005 ($900!) that my wife knocked over onto the desk. The glass is OK, but 40% of the screen has a flat, dark colour and images can no longer be seen in that area. We can still read anything in the remaining portion of the screen.

We purchased a new monitor, but what to do with the damaged one? It kills me to throw it away. Can anything be repaired? Or given away for some other use? Kept for parts? Suggestions?

Raven, it might have some value to someone looking for the housing or the glass, but I wouldn't hold my breath. There are two with unspecified damage ("not working") on eBay at the moment for $30, and one that sold not too long ago for $31, so I'd say the demand isn't high. Besides - it's now 5 years old, so not a terribly high demand item even if it IS working. They seem to sell on eBay from $150 to $275 (the latter was a refurb with a 90 day warranty).

As for keeping it for parts, unless you have another 20" of the same vintage, probably not a lot of point in that as I doubt that there would be a lot of common parts between it and say, something newer.
