I really miss some of the 'talk' radio that our local stations dropped a few months ago....

Yes, I know his post was in a topic three years ago..... came across Jim's plea when I was searching for something else (how I was introduced to TS).

If you're still looking for talk in English, you might like to check out BBC's Radio 7 for archive drama and comedy material, some of it going back to the 50s but most of it "remastered", and Radio 4 for more topical material, including plays, discussion and extended news reports. Both can be listened to online.

And, of course, Radio 4 has The Archers, "the world's longest-running radio serial", which started on January 1, 1951. I'm sure the Beeb plans a party for its 60th anniversary smile.gif

Oh, and I've still not found how I was introduced to TS, though I recall writing about it ....  rolleyes.gif

I used to listen to "the Beeb" years ago on shortwave and still do with my little Grundig pocket radio.  I suppose it would be a little better to do it on the internet instead but there was something about the concentrated dial twisting (and the little electric shocks I used to get) when I used the old Hallicrafter shortwave set that is up in the closet with its leaking caps and bad tubes!

Listening to "Comedy Catchup" right now and it's funnier than anything I've seen lately on television!  If I just had some "subtitles" to get me past the accents! wink.gif  I also looked at the news footage of North Korea's comedy king coming out for a celebration of him:

WOW! Talk about theatre of the absurd!

While the local station pushed the 'talkies' to their HD service, many of us didn't have those receivers. I do now, but it is about have the size of an iPhone, can only be heard with headphones and is extremely sensitive to a weak signal. Of course, that's the "beauty" of digital signals, they are either have great output or none! wallbash.gif Fortunately, I found another NPR station in Mississippi that is strong enough to be heard well north of my location. And, since it's not digital (although they have one), it can still be heard even if it's a little staticy. clap.gif And their programming is almost 180° opposite of the local station. The HD station is about 90% classical music while the analog station is only 10% classical. And, frankly, I just love to hear that Mississippi accent!! rofl.gif

Now that we finally broke down and bought an HD TV, I have discovered many BBC shows that we never could get on the analog cable, namely Top Gear! They also have lots of re-runs of Star Trek...been there...done that...moved on. The trouble with TV, of course, is that you have to actually look at the screen quite often. With radio, you get to use your brain as the image creator! wink.gif

Which station are you listening to?  I have Kansas Public Radio (Lawrence) and KCUR (UMKC) but I like the ones in California better for some other things.

Not much local area news on those stations. And I'd have to be at my computer or draining the battery on my iPhone. These local stations come in fine on a regular FM (non-Sirious) radio! wink.gif And I can get just about the same programs before I get to my weekly travels about 90 miles northwest of home. When I speak of "Talk" radio, I do not mean Howard Stern, Rush Limbaugh, etc. And the Mississippi station has a different, locally produced spoken program each day of the work week. Won't find that from CA, either. Or, if you do, the concerns certainly won't be about our area. smile.gif I guess there's enough radio around to please just about everyone. clap.gif
