Correlated Magnetics Research LLC (CMR) announced today the development of a new technology that will allow the design and manufacture of programmable magnets for use across industry and worldwide.

Coded magnetic structures can be designed to deliver precise holding strength characteristics, customized release behavior, prescribed alignment tolerances, and even unique identities that can discriminate among other programmed magnets and determine which devices will interact.

Kind of looks like fractal structures built into highly intense magnetic fields: seeing is believing! Years ago my grandfather (amongst thousands of other) tried to build a frictionless bearing using magnets and aluminum parts.  He kind of got the resulting gearing train to be less hard to push but it was never near frictionless. It's almost like these guys at CMR have figured it out! thumbup.gif I feel like knowing more!
