When I try to attach a picture in a TS post, I have lost all the upload, etc options on the TS site.

Also missing emoticons.    :help:

This has only occurred since my Glims saga.

What did I mess up now?

Jack, have you done anything since deleting Glims? Have you tried restarting Safari? Restarting your Mac? Tossing the Safari .plist? Repairing permissions? Try the really basic things first. Does Safari work ok here at TS on a test account? Have you logged out here and back in? Deleted the TS cookie? (is this the only site that is wonky?)

Firefox work ok?

OK:

New info, per Paddy recommendations:
Problem same in both Safari & ff
• booted second account - BOTH ff & Safari have same problem as main account
• Repaired disk permissions and did a couple of minor mods
- Then Safari & ff both were ok
• rebooted to main account - problem persists in Safari & ff

• I Power off/on on reguler basis, when I'm not using - off, then on
• Disk Utility - repair permissions - do this regularly, did it several times today
- problem persists
• Booted up in Single user mode - ran Applejack 1.6 - did all but repair permissions
• restart - DU repair permissions
- no joy
• Disabled ALL ff extensions - Adblock Plus 1.2.2, BetterPrivacy 1.48.3, Flashblock 1.5.13,
- FlashGot 1.2.1.31, GoogleSharing 0.19, NoScript 2.0.3.2
Restarted ff - still no joy

Logged off second account, and back into prime — problem persists in Safari & FF    :sad face: since emoticons don't work
• Ran OnyX 2.1.9
- Daily/Weekly/Monthly scripts & various other cleanups.
- Still no joy

Krissel how do I change skins — haven't found it yet.

Logged out of primary account, and back into secondary.

Both Safari & ff still ok.  sweatingbullets.gif

BUT, I have to log back into TS each time I restart browsers!!

Ah, yes, but did you delete the TS cookie, Jack? The having to log back in each time can be a symptom of messed up cookies.

Well, if it's any comfort, FF does that to me too, sometimes. I just checked - it had me logged out again. However, after deleting all TS cookies (use FF's search tool in the Cookies window) and logging back in, then quitting FF, I am once again remembered at TS. Did it twice - still logged in. smile.gif

For whatever reason, FF seems much more sensitive to corrupted cookies (if that is what it is) than Safari.

Also - you shut down each night, you said? Do you have any utilities set to run that might be removing caches, cookies etc.?

BTW - repairing permissions should not be a daily affair. I only do it when one of my Apple apps starts behaving strangely - and that's pretty rare.

One other thing you might try is to go to the front page of the forums, scroll down near the bottom and look for a link that reads:

Delete cookies set by this board

Click that and then log back in again. Sometimes that helps when other things don't. I don't know why. It's a mystery.

While it may be your TS prefs/cookies that are messed up, the reason I bring up skins is that some skins aren't as obvious as to whether you are using the Fast Reply (which does not have the attachments upload and the emoticons are in a bar at the top) or the full reply which shows the attachments window. (I know you're no newbie to this forum so I'm sure this information is known to you but I add it here for others who may have a similar problem.)

Fast Reply

 Most skins have a "Toggle Side Panel" at the bottom of the main reply window in the full reply mode. That will show the following:

Full reply ("Add Reply" in Golden Wine skin)

But each skin varies in the names it gives to these options and the location of the toggle link.  It may be that the pref for your skin is corrupted in your personal account. It's also possible that one of the skins is not acting properly so that's why I wondered which one you are using.

Go to the bottom left of an open forum window and you will see a drop down for skin choice. The present one you are using is listed. Try another one and see if you get any different results.

I was able to get firefox back to normal by restoring an older copy from TimeMachine.

Tried restoring Safari from TM — still no go, and my financial sites have gone kaput also.

Financials now work in ff. So all is not lost.

I dumped the Safari icon on my dock
and deleted Safari.plist from my account

Re-installed Safari icon on dock.

Rebooted Safari from Dock icon.

TS and financial sites once again work properly!

Now is once again happiness and much Joy in NE Ohio. Oh Joy, Oh Joy!!

The moving of the plist is what worked. That was suggested by Paddy back in post #2, but I don't see that you ever did it. The ability to have things work normally in a secondary account is further proof that the plist is the problem. That one of the few things that gets done when you run an app from a secondary account. The app is still installed only one place, but each account gets its own set of preferences.

Moving a plist file is usually the absolute easiest thing to do. There's no need to "trash" it, simply move it to another location and restart the app. If things work normally, you may want to replace the new plist with the old one just to see all the preferences that you had set up. So, it might not be a good idea to "trash" a plist until you know it is bad. Better Safe Than Sorie! rofl.gif

As far as I know, the Dock icon is simply a glorified alias with a few tricks up its virtual sleeve. dntknw.gif
