Opening Pagemaker files
« on: June 18, 2003, 09:56:51 AM »
I've just received a Pagemaker file and can't find a way of opening it - Quark doesn't want to know.

Does anyone know if these files can be opened in any other program?

I'm looking at moving to InDesign shortly, can InDesign open Pagemaker files?

Thanks for any help.

Paul

Paul. I don't know anything about these things. smile.gif

Found where someone used CanOpener.

Do you have that old application?

There's a commercially available PM2Q at least $142.

It does yes.. but hold in mind that it's not always perfect and u might have font problems in conversion.

Quark can open a Pagemaker file with the help of the (commercial) MarkzWare "PM2Q XT" XTension.

I believe there is a demo available -- www.markzware.com

Paul, InDesign has no problem opening PageMaker files - I've opened a few since switching to InDesign over a year ago. InDesign is great - I'd never go back to good ole "RageMaker" - though I never had any problems with it, it seems downright primitive compared to InDesign. I never was a Quark user, though I own 4.x....and don't see myself forking over $$$ for the OS X upgrade, since I'm very happy with ID. smile.gif

The conversion extension which Tacit mentioned is $141.55 for the download version(for Quark 4.x) or $189 for the download for the Q5 version and there is NO demo for either.(Markzware offers demos of lots of other things though). Unless you're planning on using Quark a lot, save the $141 and apply it to the purchase of ID.

InDesign can also open Quark files, BTW. smile.gif

Thank you all very much - as usual you've answered my question perfectly.  biggrin.gif

Paul

P.S. Paddy - you're obviously the InDesign guru around these parts - once I get started wth it, if I have any problems, I'm going to know where to come  notworthy.gif
