. . . in Honolulu, this week.
Some of you may remember that I
"lost my Genie" (effect) some time ago and could not seem to get it back, either by building a new user profile, or trashing prefs files, or whatever.
One of the resident "geniuses" at the Ala Moana store pointed out to me this week that TinkerTool had a minimizer setting that interfered, since it didn't specifically cite "Genie", a teeny, tiny detail I had failed to discover.
Not a major problem of Western Civilization, but I really did want my Genie . . . you can have your MayPo . . .
Second minor, but nevertheless vexing problem . . . also solved by Mr. Genius. If you travel with a PowerBook, you may have noticed that booting-up at a new location (with the attendant new settings in the Internet and Network preference panels) wouldn't necessarily make Internal Modem the default setting in Internet Connect . . . no matter how carefully you might have tried to establish it in the Modem Tab of the Network pref panel. Why?
'Cause, dummy, (that's ME I'm referring to) there's also a NetWork Configuration alternative in the dropdown that shows the Internal Modem, Ethernet, and the Infrared option. The configuration option is how the default is really set for each location.
Hmmmm. I'd overlooked that . . . but no longer.
FWIW.
