Just try to bookmark a site after you upgrade FF
« on: February 08, 2011, 07:36:26 PM »
I upgraded my Firefox on both computers this afternoon and now when I try to bookmark a page or site, it will not stick, just is not there.
So I just enter it into Safari, and its OK or other browsers?
What gives?

I don't know, Jane - never had that problem. But there are some troubleshooting steps here:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Bookmarks%20not%20saved

More here:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite

Note: looked all over the place for the environment.plist file (made invisible files visible via the Terminal too) and couldn't find it anywhere, so not sure about that little tip in the "Other Solutions" section. So I googled it and the most helpful thing I could come up with was a posting on the Mozilla support area with this solution quoted, the person posting the question not being able to find the file either and 10 people saying they don't understand the solution either!

Did you upgrade to FF 4? That's still in beta. You can still download FF 3.6 if you want to downgrade.

Im using 3.6.13 on both Macs.  Just upgraded it yesterday and thats when bookmarking stopped working. I updated the Firebug thing, so Im sure that is where the problem is.
Everything else works fine, just no new bookmarks stick.
I will go thru your links here carefully and try some of the 'fixes' for this.
Probably we will hear more about this soon, if thousands of people updated FF.
Thanks,
jane

Jane, first step would be to start FF up in Safe Mode.

See: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode

I'd suggest disabling add-ons and any special toolbars and then exiting Safe Mode and seeing if that fixed things. If it did, then re-enable them one by one until you find the culprit.

Im pretty sure its Firebug.
I will give this a try with Safe Mode, though I do use Firebug a bit, just learning how.
Probably keep it on one Mac and not the other one.

Solved, thank you!
Started FF in SafeMode, disabled extensions, and my bookmarks now can be added just like old times.
It had to be Firebug.
I will wait for the fix to come out, then add it back.

I use the WebDeveloper constantly and added it back, and probably will add the Ad-blocker one back too.

URLMP always has worked for me in all versions of FF, although some said it didn't. And the latest update is said to fix that problem, anyway. I guess some still like to keep multi-ple bookmark lists... dntknw.gif Of course, there are other bookmark managers, none that I've seen are URLMP's equal, of course...
