Weird Board behavior
« on: August 07, 2011, 10:06:07 PM »
My new iMac screen has a very high pixel density, the resolution must be well over 100dpi. So I've been having some difficulty reading the text on my normal TS Theme/Skin. Blood Wine puts white text on a blood/wine colored background, not my favorite color but it is somewhat easier to read. dntknw.gif

I also tried Sage. A little better BUT...I discovered that using command-click on a link not only created a new tab for that page (setting for that is in Safari Prefs->Tabs first of two checkboxes) but it also takes the current page to the new one, also! Not what I want since I often visit sites with many links on a single page that I want to visit without having to go back to the original page! rant.gif

I thought it might be a .plist problem but moving the apple.com.Safari.plist and creating a new one made no difference. Thinking.gif For some reason, I changed the Skin from Sage to one of the others. The un-wanted duplicate tabs problem was cleared! WOW.gif wallbash.gif

Went back to Sage and the problem returned! wallbash.gif

Not sure why this could happen, I thought the skins were mainly just CSS files. But there must be something else in there...

Anyone else able to duplicate this behavior? dntknw.gif

That probably works. But I checked all the other skins and they all worked as they should, Sage is the only one that changed the current page and added a new tab. The skins may be javascript rather than pure CSS. The author of that skin may have some leftover code that forces the current page to change while the OS knows to open a new tab (as set in the prefs). dntknw.gif

Clearing cache doesn't work.
Dumping cookies doesn't work.
Logging out and back in again doesn't work.
Not using the Sage skin DOES work.

Yes, I can -- and did -- duplicate the behavior. It's been a problem for quite a while and it is why I finally gave up the Sage skin several months ago.

I meant to mention it, but I was still using 10.5 and an old browser and figured that was the problem. Once I upgraded my OS and browser I forgot to check it. My brain is a sieve.

That's bizarre. I always just use the TS default theme, so hadn't seen that odd behaviour. The skins should just be CSS files - when I'm feeling a bit more energetic I'll try to remember to have a good hard look at them. Right now I'm too tired to do anything requiring actual thinking. wink.gif

I'm using Illuminate with not as many reading problems, despite the fact that text looks dark grey not black...
I wish there was a default setting for fonts and/or text size. I guess I could create a shortcut to set that up when entering a post, but it wouldn't help when simply reading them... Thinking.gif

OK - I am now a little more awake etc. and tried Sage and could NOT duplicate your issue, Jim. Command click on a link gives me the new page in a separate tab, as it should, and I stay on the original page. I'm using Lion on this MBP. So...might be something in your settings?

I have "open pages in tabs instead of windows" - Never and command-click opens a link in a new tab checked.

Running 10.6.x, Safari 5.1 and I can duplicate this issue with Sage. I changed my Safari setting to "open pages in tabs instead of windows" - Never rather than "automatic" and still had the issue.
