10.6.8 Combo Overwrites Safari v5.1 with v5.0.5
« on: August 20, 2011, 09:01:59 AM »
I have seen almost no publicity about this, so...

If you've used the Snow Leopard Combo, you may need/want to download and (re)install the Safari v5.1 standalone.

(Thanks to Artie 505 at Fine Tuned Mac for bringing this to my attention.)

That may indicate one reason to not use a 'combo' updated. Apparently, this one only checks for versions 'older than' what it wants to install or disregards versions 'newer than.' doh.gif Of course, having archived versions of any critical app is paramount [or is it MGM?] (.zip, .DMG, Time Machine, clone, etc.). Still, it is frustrating for a 'user-friendly' company to do this kind of thing. rolleyes.gif

Actually, that might have been a good thing, considering the problems that have been reported on Safari 5.1.

I am happy with 5.0.5

What problems? I'm happily running 5.1 with no problems.

My apologies Kimmer.

I was not speaking from direct experience, only from reports I had read about incompatibilities with some addons.

But I now understand that most of those have been fixed, or work-arounds found.

Jack

Edited to add: Here's some of the items I was referring to:
