Preview won't open images
« on: June 25, 2003, 09:14:52 AM »
The problems continue with my upgraded Rev D iMac (600 harmoni upgrade). In between restarts I did get a few photos scanned, but Preview won't display them. The Preview application launches, but doesn't display anything. This is a fresh install of OS 10.2.6. I can't find anything on the Knowledgebase about this.

What does "get info" say on the photo extensions? Can you open them by going to "open with"?

Only if I change the preference from "Preview(default) to another app. Then the other app (QT, for instance) opens the photo. Changing back to Preview as a Pref reverts to nothing happening. mad.gif I ran Cocktail and repaired permissions as well.

Again. Was this an Update? smile.gif

Some have had better luck with the 10.2.6 Combo Update.

Even running it over an earlier Update. smile.gif

What about going to the photo itself and getting info (from file in the menu),then assigning 'preview' to open it?

Sorry, didn't catch the update question with all this smoke coming out of my ears wallbash.gif .I initialize the disk, installed 9.2.2, installed 10.2, installed 10.2.3 combo, then 10.2.6 combo.

Are your scanned images TIFFs? Try appending the suffix .tiff to the image files and see what happens. Can other applications open the files? (photoshop, Graphic Converter...etc)

Well. I don't think you have much to lose. smile.gif

Try deleting com.apple.Preview.plist in Users > Library > Preferences

It might also be helpful to create a new User and see if it works then first.

Or simply logging out and back in.

In the get info box, open with Preview (default) is selected, and below that, in the preview  box, a thumbnail does appear. I deleted that preference. Still no good; deleted Preview and copied from my iBook. Still no go. wow.

Mac genius at applecare recommended archive and install.(No, I don't have applecare on a '99 iMac!) I'm determined to get this fixed!
