Photo CDs work in Mac7200, not in iMac!
« on: June 25, 2003, 04:08:46 PM »
I have some photo CDs that work on my old Mac7200, but wont work on my iMac, altho they once did!

I finally discovered that the iMac was missing Apple Photo Access in the Extensions and Preferences folders. Since I couldn’t figure out how to do it any other way, I reinstalled the OS 9.2, and that got Apple Photo Access in both the Extensions and Preferences folder. But that still did not get the CDs recognized by the iMac.

Clue: When I double click on the Prefs icon for Apple Photo Access, it tells me that it is for the app  “Slide Show Viewer”, which I cannot find anywhere, on my iMac, or on Apple Support.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, nels96

P.S. I should have added that the error msg is "This disk is not readable by this computer. Do you want to initialize or eject?"

If no one at TS can help on this, can anyone tell me where else to go to ask for more guidance ?

Thanks, nels96

nels96. Do you have back ups that include your System Folder? smile.gif

These can save a reinstall.

Is that Extension in the Extensions Folder?

Have you tried cleaning your CD Drive with a CD Disk Cleaner?

You need the Photo Access extension AND "Foreign File Access" in your Extensions folder. Make sure you have both.

Hi Kelly,

That suggestion for a System Folder backup is a great idea; I've had other backups but never got around to that one.
Thanks.

Yes, the Apple Photo Access extension is in the Extensions Folder.

I never have considered CD Disk Cleaner because I donot use the iMac slot very much, maybe 50 times since I bought it last year, and my desk and disks never see any food or drink.

BTW, what other forums would you recommend if this problem doesn't get solved here on TS?

Thanks, nels96

Thanks, Tacit, that did it!!!

Foreign File Access was missing from the Extensions Folder; I found it in the Extensions (Disabled) and simply moved it over to Ext Fldr.

As usual I probably made my own mistake trying to cleanup long lists into shorter ones. "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing", right?

Thanks again, Tacit and Kelly
