Another Lion Issue

There seems to be a plethora of links on the Apple Support  forums regarding this.

 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/320795...=0&tstart=0 (and relevant threads).

What I have been dealing with since replacing the Mini with a new MBP is, the connected VGA monitor looses is connection to the MBP closing the lid.  Closing the lid does not put the computer to sleep. (the power light remains on and steady) clicking on the USB mouse does nothing.  I have tried all of the suggested remedies in the various threads, i.e: removing the external power, eliminating  all of the "sharing", etc with no real results.  The opinions vary as to the problem and the solutions.  It is nothing I cannot live with but it appears Apple is going to have to come to the rescue to solve it. I can put the MBP to sleep from the drop down under the Apple, I have to leave the lid up to use the monitor and the wireless kbd and trackpad.

The ideal (for me) situation is to be able to close the lid on the MBP and continue to operate with the VGA monitor, Trackpad, and Wireless Keyboard. (the in house G4 Powerbook with OSX 10.5.8 works this way just lovely, with wired keyboard and mouse)

No joy so far.

I'm a tad confused whether you want to use the MBP with the lid closed or make it go to sleep.

Read through this Apple TIL and see if it helps:

Note the comments on heat dissipation.

Well this is how it is SUPPOSE to work, however it does not.  I have attempted it with both a USB mouse and the Bluetooth Kbd and Trackpad.

When I close the lid it  looses the connection to the Monitor. (signal lost), and it is NOT asleep. No response to mouse  etc. I have to raise the lid to regain the connection.

Putting it to sleep from the "drop down" works, however it will not wake  up from the Mouse nor the Bluetooth, once again the lid has to be raised.

I have not yet been able to operate with the lid down.

This is what is NOT happening.

When you close the lid:
In OS X Lion, the external display will change to a blue screen, then will show your desktop.

Well kinda, sorta, maybe.  For about 1/2 of a second the desktop appears, then the connection to the monitor is lost.

The Mac Gremlins are at work.  Here it is one month to the day of my original post and just like magic, today it works as advertised.  I can now work with the lid down. thumbup.gif

The only thing different is I did upgrade to 10.7.2 earlier in the week BUT it did not work at that time or anytime thereafter when I tried it. Until 15 minutes ago

I normally put it to sleep then close the lid as a normal "done for a while" when leaving the desk.  NOW when I close the lid (without putting it to sleep) it works just lovely. jawdrop.gif

Putting it to  sleep works but has to be awakened either with a USB connection or raising the lid.

The further I go the confuser I get toothgrin.gif
