Panther/iDisk

I saw the preview for iDisk under Panther and I don't get it.  It sounds more like Backup to me.

I don't want my iDisk files to be stored locally on my hard drive.  I like cleaning out my hard drive (I have 200 megabytes of iDisk space).  Also, what if someone else opens something and makes a change that I don't like.  Will it automatically be synchronized?

Maybe I just don't understand what they're talking about.  If someone else does, can you explain it to me???

Dan, I think Panther keeps a copy of your iDisk on your HD. So, if you save stuff to your iDisk, you can do it locally, without connecting, and then when you do connect, iDisk will automatically sync the local iDisk with your .mac iDisk. I don't really see any advantage to this for those with high speed connections. Perhaps if more than one user is using the same iDisk and you want to keep everything synchronized, it would be useful. But who knows. I've never found any use for it. 100 MB...even 200 MB wouldn't do very much for me!

So YOU can keep track of what really is stored on your iDisk?

Maybe not, but still....

That's how I understood it as well.  I agree with you that it's not worth it just to back things up.  I use it for my web space and I store some documents that I no longer use but want a copy of.  I don't understand why I would want a copy on my hard dirve.

Anyway, at the .Mac support area, other people said they didn't like the idea either.  The apple person who monitors the board said that it's an option.
