Invading my desktop Stickies?
« on: March 11, 2012, 01:35:55 AM »
I hesitate to write about this ... but I can't ignore it. I want to pretend it didn't happen. Please someone tell me how this happened, and what I can do about it?

We have a few stocks that we watch -- not a big deal, we are pretty conservative, but we have hung on to some that we have an emotional attachment to. (Like AAPL and ZNGA, and MCD, okay? Tells you what kind of people we are.)

So I keep these listed on a little stickie on the desktop to keep track of what we paid and how they're doing on any day. Okay so far. Just a little stickie. Mostly the window is collapsed, but it's been open (expanded) the past several days. Just now I looked at it and saw a large yellow box with red numbers "521" in it, right in the middle of the stickie. I hovered over it and it opened into a window with a "Check your credit for free" advertisement. Just like on a website advertisement.

I dragged it to the trash, and it's gone ... but I could not suppress the obvious fact that someone has gotten into my desktop -- my Stickies! How did that happen??? Can someone explain this?

Thanks,
Lorraine

Say there, Lorraine, does the fact that you are asking this question in the middle of the night have anything to do with the oddity? whistling.gif

If this is the regular Stickies application from Apple, is it possible that while you were online you may have accidentally dragged something onto the Stickie? You can add links, graphics, etc. to one simply by dragging... though I don't get the "popup" feature that you describe. Thinking.gif

Did you empty the Trash yet? You could run a Get Info on it to see if it might have further identification.

Not fair ... Who's the shrink around here, anyway?

Honestly, I don't think so. It's just sitting there, I haven't touched it, only changed from "collapse" to "expand" now and then. There's only a couple of items on it, and I just look at it when I open the stock website.

I did not empty it... But it's not there! Only a couple of items I put there earlier!

p.s. And what are you doing up at this hour, young lady??

You're as young as you feel wink.gif

That's from someone described as 70 going on 17....  though have to admit the joints are not what they were. And I'm not talking illegal substances here!

And to save the rest of you the trouble, I'll remind myself this is  offtopic.gif

I have a widget that does this for our stocks, its on the iPhone too.  I had a gremlin add some to mine, the gremlin was my grandson.  His 'watch list'.

AAPL, that sure is wonderful.
This is a bit OT, but one of my old original AAPL certificates says that I bought it ONE DAY before the first 2/1 split, one silly day, so now I have to find out if I missed it?
Should be hearing back by snail mail this week?????

Jane, did you find out about that? Also, what is the widget you mentioned? Is that the little blue icon with the graph or something else? I think the icOn came pre-set on my iPhone. Did yours or did you download it?

Yes, thats one of the widgets that come with the iPhone and the iMacs.
There are a lot of other nice ones too.
I like the weather ones too.

There is so much stuff in the app stores too, its just amazing how many goodies there are for us!
We could stuff our poor computers to the gills with fun stuff.

I don't know how many times my kids have said to me, "Mom, don't you know there's an app for that?"

What would we do without them... The apps AND the kids!!
