Finally moved to iCloud
« on: March 15, 2012, 02:43:19 PM »
But I have definitely lost email syncing to my iPhone. At least I think so, whether it can still access the server's will be determined soon. But the iPhone can't use the new iOS so it is basically locked out of iCloud. I was finally ground down to submission by the increasing 'reminders' about MobileMe shutting down.

I was told that I'd be seeing a dialog asking me to complete the transition...haven't yet seen one...I'm sure it's not Apple's problem...probably just an over-loaded server in the Bahama's due to certain Canadians stealing too much bandwidth!!!! rant.gif laughhard.gif

Did you have to "create" new Passwords/accounts  etc to solve the "family" issue???

I have moved everything off of MobileMe  except her webpage. Still do not know what to do about that.

Nope. She actually set one up for herself a few weeks ago when we bought her a One to One training deal. But she didn't use anything at MobileMe, anyway. One can still use iTunes and the both "App Stores" without having registered on iCloud just as you could without using MobileMe/DotMac.One should notice and be aware that Apple is doing almost a bait and switch, in my opinion, by letting you have 20GB of space at iCloud. That is, until MobileMe shuts down. Then, you'll either have to pay $40/year, quickly download anything over the  normal 5GB or lose it. I say it's "almost" a bait and switch because I was able to see the notice one at least one screen during the registration. But the iCloud Pref Panel only shows what's available not what will be available after the intro period. I suspect there will be some noisy repercussions when that date passes, especially if Apple doesn't post some warnings well ahead of time. ;)It's also important to remember there will no longer be a "Family Plan." Of course, there will no longer be any fees at all, so there's no reason to have any kind of price savings mechanism. dntknw.gifI did get an interesting situation just a few monuments ago. Up popped the new Airport Utility with an extremely simple/basic "diagram" of my interweb connection: The WWW -> the Airport. doh.gif The problem was, the Airport was showing the flashing amber dot/light, just like the one on the box.Apparently, the OS attempted to sign in to register so the Back to My Mac would know where my desk-bound iMac is. rolleyes.gif All I needed to do was enter the Apple password and things reset in a few seconds. I feel so much safer knowing that Apple now knows where my iMac is...That brings up one minor change from MobileMe and iCloud... iCloud requires at least one upper-case letter and one number. MobileMe much much more lenient. I'm not sure iCloud will allow punctuation, however. Since 1Password doesn't work in Pref Panels (except via copy&paste through the app, of course), I didn't go overboard on a complicated password. rolleyes.gif

I'd suggest using the space your ISP probably "gives" you, whether you have your own domain or not. You're paying for the space, anyway.
