I'd agree that's an "opinion" but I don't see it as "political." Nor is it a new one. I think they have complained about the unique screw drivers required for even some Macs/iMachines. I'm not sure why they think anyone should have the capability to dismantle any 'appliance' in the first place. I certainly don't hesitate if the thing has normal screw driver/nut driver access and readily available, standard parts. But most electronics are simply not made that way. Nor are their modern, stylistically challenging 'boxes' designed to be dismantled. OTOH, that's what we pay iFixit to do and to explain. I suppose if Apple makes it even harder to access what the are making their fortunes on, the folks at iFixit/etc. will find they need to move into other markets...or find smaller tools and tinier fingers?
So, the only thing "political" I see is that iFixit might want some kind of legislative protection for their company.
Or they may just be 'publishing info' to make their services more attractive?
This is what is sometimes called "progress." People once repaired their own wagon wheels. They then found it more economical to concentrate on their other skills. Many people used to keep their cars tuned up with their own tools. Now, you're lucky to find some one who changes their own oil!
