How to sync old iTunes 9.1 to iPad2
« on: April 23, 2012, 06:48:06 PM »
My wife has a G4, OSX10.4.11, and a new iPad 2. She loves it! She tried to sync her music, but her iPad wants iTunes 10.5.
Of course, the G4 is maxed out. Is there any work around, or does she have to buy a new Mac?
She uses her Mac for basic stuff - web, email, iTunes, iPhoto, MS Word, Excel... Period!

Suggestions from the good folks at TS? :-)

Raven, I looked up every 1GHz G4 on everymac.com, not knowing which one your wife has, and every single one of them can run OS 10.5, and therefore can also run iTunes 10.5. Also, all of them will support more RAM - either 1.5 or 2GB, depending on which model of G4 she has.

Now...you are at the end of the line here - sooner or later, the iOS updates will require a later version of iTunes to sync, but for now, you can squeak under the line.

See system requirements for iTunes 10.5: http://9to5mac.com/2011/10/11/itunes-10-5-...et-downloading/

Of course, if you don't already own 10.5, finding it won't be easy - or cheap.

Thanks Paddy.
After much consideration, we think getting a refurbished MiniMac may be her best solution for the next few years.

It's frustrating when one component needs to be upgraded and it requires a complete hardware upgrade. Like many of you, we've acquired many Apple gadgets for work and play - iMac, iBook, G4, iPhone, iPad, iPods. Keeping them all current is a challenge for most people. So, we keep buying whether we want to or not. Apple is happy. Consumers stay poor. And the world turns. ;-)
