<Perhaps our 'other-side-of-the-pond crew can explain the references to "Dixons?">

Actually, the job opening hasn't yet been posted, but you might want to get your resumé updated... inspect.gif

Dixons, Currys and PC World are all part of the same group which has a reputation for employing sales assistants with very little knowledge and very little interest in the customer other than parting them from their money (especially for product breakdown insurance). It has been known for a customer to be offered breakdown insurance on a 10GBP kettle  rolleyes.gif

The Dixons name disappeared from the high street, going online only, but the other two operations are still there. I only shop there when I know exactly what I want and they have the best price smile.gif

I just can't imagine what Steve would say to this news but doubt very much it would be anywhere near the lines of "well done". Not that it would have happened in the  first place.

Went back to announcement of his appointment in January and found this Guardian report.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/ja...ef-john-browett

The comments will give you a fair idea of what many people think of Dixons group and the appointment.

Be warned - some of the language in comments is not the kind we would welcome on this forum wink.gif

Ah the abilities of native English speakers is extremely entertaining! laughhard.gif Thanks for some real out-loud laughs!

Seriously, however, this statement made me question Mr. Browett's abilities. "News of Browett's departure wiped 10% or almost £50m off Dixons' market value, before the shares recovered slightly to close down 8% at 14p." I'm not a math whiz nor even a EC monetary expert, but isn't "p" short for 'pence' which is fairly equivalent to the US penny? And this 'turn around' has helped to the stock price to that point, at least back in January... perhaps it has skyrocketed up to 20p by now? Generally, a stock price like that would be considered as similar to a junk bond rating, if I can use that analogy. wallbash.gif

Of course, the dichotomy of the opinions expressed by 'customers' and 'business experts' about Dixon and/or Mr. Browett rather says it all. Executives are often too removed from 'reality' to make important decisions, especially when customer service (experience) is involved. At least that's my 'customer-based' experience! laugh.gif It seems Mr. Browett was more enamored about what his job at Apple would do for him than what he might be able to do for it... "...for me to sit inside a technology company like that and see how it works is really exciting." And I get very well paid also! rolleyes.gif

You are correct - p is indeed penny. There are 100 in the pound, as there have been for 41 years now smile.gif

If you take the year to date, though, the share price has been doing a lot better since he moved on - shot up just after the announcement, still just pennies though. If I was Apple I might read a lot into that!

John Browett, the new senior vice president of Apple’s retail, admitted that the company had “messed up” and is on track to hiring new staff to meet the demands of the predicted spike in customers next month, when the new iPhone and iPad mini is rumoured to be released.

General opinion seems to that the company did indeed "mess up" – by hiring him....
