Thanks, xABD. We've tried all that and nothing worked. After several weeks of Sneakers --> wallbash.gif and wallbash.gif <--me, we gave up. I have a sharing folder on my iMac and we stick everything in there. I just have to remember the dump it and not fill up my HD. biggrin.gif

Err... isn't that kinda the same as the "Public" folder that every machine has automatically? dntknw.gif

Here's my rather limited setup. I don't actually allow many files to be shared, although many are in folders inside specific app's folders inside the Applications directory.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Appreciate the tips. I'm sure it's something we've either clicked on or off and shouldn't or should -- but I cannot see Sneaker's iMac and so can't reach his public folder. For whatever reason he can reach my iMac, but can't see the public folder. : dntknw.gif What we have set up now works for both of us, so I'm leaving well enough alone rather than upset my beloved's apple cart. So, just to keep muddying up the waters...

About a year and a half ago, I bought an Epson 810 Artisan all-in-one printer, scanner, fax etc.

Works like a dream, Epson Scan can be configured pretty much however you want it, and any of our laptops can access it wirelessly (is that really a word???) without sharing, networking, etc.

And it rocks, it can scan to .pdf or pretty much whatever you want to do with it, and it's very quick. I'm not sure of how much resolution it can go to, but so far as I've used it, no problem getting fairly high rez scans.

More specs on request.

Just sayin'...

Great! I've seen many good reviews of that model. We just didn't need a new machine, the Brother does everything else just fine via Sharing, it is just the scanner function that would not cooperate.

I normally use Image Capture or PDFPen Pro to access any scanner. I think Elements (and other Adobe apps) use TWAIN for the interface (I've never bothered installing that plugin). In any event, there should be a pop-up/down/sideways list showing available resolutions.

OK, I just found and installed the TWAIN plugin for Elements. What then happens is that the Epson Scan app is called up. It is basically a port of the Windows app and it shows the usual less than pleasing window UI and fonts display. I'll probably never see it again! smile.gif

I've found that the all in one scanners that come with printers are not very good at all. Moiré patterns are very visible on most of them to a lesser or greater extent.

Back when I was on OS9, I used a UMAX scanner that had such great software, it had a Moiré choice for magazines, photos and newspapers. It put out scans that were great!

I still have that UMAX scanner and I'm wondering if it would work with Image Capture?

I'm running OS 10.6.8.

Does anyone know if that would work. It is a triple pass scanner. It took longer to scan but produced wonderful scans!

I'd suggest plugging it in and se if it shows up in your Print & Fax pref panel. If it shows up there, it should work in Image Capture. You might need newer drivers and that might be impossible. But what do you have to lose? wink.gif

Thanks XABD.

I may get it out of mothballs and give it a try. I don't scan much these days. It would be nice if it worked but I'm thinking it won't.

I went to the UMAX website and they are having problems with the drivers in OSX even on their new scanners, especially with Snow Leopard and Lion etc.
