What's the downside to "SilverLight"
« on: September 07, 2012, 12:58:04 PM »
I'm a caregiver to a Parkinson's patient.

The Parkinson's Disease Foundation presents a regular series of on-line educational seminars. However their "purveyor" issues these instructions if one wishes to participate, as I do . . .

I don't aspire (ever) to install anything from M$, unless absolutely necessary.

Is there any reason to worry about "SilverLight"? Will I have 10,006 unnecessary M$ files dumped into my HD as a result of responding to this "invitation".

I'm essentially clueless about SilverLight, just suspicious.

It does no more harm than any other MS code. As far as I know, they are no longer developing it, however, so that site might want to consider something less commercial, like HTML5... And, the last surveys I've seen also says MS browsers are being used by decreasing numbers of people, even as MS finally improves their browsers enough to approach near compatibility with last years web standards.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

There are no particular problems with it that I've encountered. Netflix uses it too.

That's reassuring. Thanks.

IMO, I have no discernible standing to influence the PDF in their choice of computers/software/procedures.

I haven't had any problems with "SilverLight" either, running Snow Leopard.
