Crooner Was Known For 'Moon River,' Christmas Specials. He was 84. The cause of death, his family says, was bladder cancer.

I heard a bit on NPR about him; didn't know he was a close friend of the Kennedy family.  He was asked to be a delegate for JFK to the Democratic Convention and when he replied that he was a Republican JFK said he should change parties for the Convention then change back when it was over!  I did think he did a better job of singing "Moon River" than Audrey Hepburn or whoever actually sang it for the movie. . .did it sound like her to everyone?

I also think it was very classy to stick to his ex-wife throughout the murder trial she underwent!  I think he was overall a talented nice person from IOWA!

He saw near the end of the era where singers were classy not classless and when songs had a story with words one could actually understand. I haven't figured out what "rap" is yet...

Went to see him about 12 years ago in Branson. He could make men get teary-eyed and women swoon! RIP Andy.

I sincerely hope JFK was joking.... or that the story is apocryphal
 
He certainly came across as a "good bloke" as well as a fine singer.

OT & maybe too close to the "No Politics" rule:
Probably similar on you side of the Pond, but here we usually have Primaries to select each parties nominee for whatever office. But one must 'declare' one party or the other in order to vote. There are the occasional third/fourth-party candidates, but they seldom have a primary. This results in shorter ballots in the general election which keeps the voter from losing attention during the voting.
