prob. with OS8.6 finder appl. icon
« on: July 07, 2003, 10:39:07 PM »
wacko.gif I have OS 8.6 and using Netscape 7 as one of my web browsers.  When I start the program like now the words Netscape show up in the finder area but the icon is from a Old English Text MT font instead of the Netscape one. The program is working fine, just kinda annoying, but I would like to know how to change it back. Hey Bernie I seen your post and decided to try it, and thanks for the info.

wacko.gif Hi Bernie, tried what you suggested but no luck,  I even tried clicking on the original program icon same thing. When I rebuilt the desktop I did it on all 3 drives on my system. I am going to try a rebuild again and see what happens, it does not happen with IE 5 or any applications. I will post what happens again.

welcome.gif Christopher

I'm having a hard time visualising....can you take a screen shot and post it for us, or if you don't have web space to upload it, send it to one of us who will be happy to post it for all to see?

Had a second thought....What font are you using for your "Large System Font", "Small System Font" and "Views Font" (Control Panels>Appearance>Fonts)  Possible you had Old English Text MT at one time (or even still)?

chrisharjo. Hello. Welcome to the Forum. smile.gif

Have you tried trashing some System Preferences?

I'd try trashing Finder Preferences and System Preferences to start with. smile.gif

chrisharjo,

Welcome.

I'd try rebuilding the Desktop from scratch with TechTool 1.2.1.

Run DiskWarrior first, if you have it. Seems like the icon flag is screwed up.

I had the same problem with NS 4.7.8. a long time ago.
I think I trashed the Finder Preferences and once rebooted it went back to normal.?.

wacko.gif I tried trashing the system and finder, no luck. I don't have a copy of the two programs mentioned but I have used my copy of norton utilities and it found the bundle bit for the ATI icon on and it should be off and I had it turned off.  I rebuilt the desktop still no luck, looks like Iam cursed. Thanks for all the suggestions I will keep trying and doing what everyone suggests. If nothing else works I will try the two programs suggested too, I can be stubborn, like that billy goat wanting to cross that bridge with the troll under it.

wacko.gif Thanks for the help. I got it fixed by downloading a font manager shareware program that listed all the fonts on my machine. I listed another MT font, just like the one I moved to the zip disk and deleted from the hard drive. I deleted that font and rebooted and started netscape and it was gone. Sorry jepinto, I just now viewed your reply but checked it out and it was similar to my trouble. I thought I deleted that font but this one appeared from where I don't know. I remember puting that font in the system from my other machine because I liked it, but I guess it didn't like being moved. I would like to thank everyone who posted and thanks to Bernie for turnnig me on to this site and again to jepinto for her memory and posting my messed up font problem. I will be around now that I have found a place I can learn more about Apple Mac.
