OT: Changing carreer, sometimes i\'m dreaming:
« on: February 15, 2003, 06:33:00 AM »
Hey people,
The last weeks i'm like thinking that... i would really like to start the verrrry first Apple Store in the Benelux (Europe so far).
Ok... i know, might sound a bit silly
But... we have this huge mall a little outside the city of Antwerp which would be perrrrfect to have one.
I would like it to have the same look as the US stores, but more based to the Belgian (European) continent.
Even thinking about adding a coffee bar to it
You can see the shopping center here

But i don't really know how to begin at all of this.
Should i just start mailling Apple somehow? or write them?
I can go visit them next month maybe, lol
Maybe some of you have experiences in this? or know from others, or just thoughts???

This topic is also a little of an mirror image on my previous topic, cause i'm thinking to move to USA to.
But... main thing is, i need a different thing in my life, and the girl in Boston is the biggest part of it, so i'm just thinking about various things to do

Thanks all

Apple wouldn't let you do this. All Apple stores are company owned.

Bob's almost certainly right.
But you're not the only one dreaming, Marcel.
There's been talk of Apple Stores in London and right here in Paris for a while now. I haven't closely followed up media speculation about a potential site for one not far from the Champs Elysées.
MacWorld UK reckons Apple is heading for a European retail chain within the "next 18 months".
But you might be heading across the Atlantic?

Woow, actually... i thought the stores would be franchising... kinda surprised me they are really company owned.
But ok.

Going over the atlantic is one of the things i'm thinking about yes
I heard there would be a new big store in the Netherlands to, and rumours grow that it will be an Apple Store (in Amsterdam) but nothing for sure yet.
So i guess... it seems European countries are battling to get the first Apple Store in Euope in their country huh, hehehe

Mrious:
Boston is very much like Brussels - sort of like a sprawling Euro city.
But I have to ask - ??? Why don't you make a 'pitch' to Apple and become - - - The First Apple Retailer / Store Manager- - - in B-land?
And spare yourself the agony of all of the up-front costs and keep it ($$$) for the gal with the song "Please come to Boston in the Springtime" - - - -

If you need any info on joint ventures (US/Euro), I have dear friends in Frankfurt (formerly lived in Brussels) and representatives for several US states currently with New York and South Carolina.  If interested, e-mail me and I'll give you some contact numbers.

I've been in your city three times.  Very nice.  I had a terrible car accident in Remich on my way to D-land a few years ago.

My wife and I are heading over there this September for her class reunion.  Flights are unbelievably cheap.  I was looking at BestFares.com today and we could get a round-trip ticked to Munich for $149 USD from Boston (which I think is equiv. to your new Euro's) For that price we could go for a weekend trip to Germany cheaper than for us to go from Albany, NY to Boston, MA (which is only 150 mi from my house).

The Apple Store sounds like a nice change of pace.  Check out Apple and make them an 'offer they can't refuse'.  You can count on over 1200 letters of reference to Apple from the TS site.

Good luck,
Mike

PS:  - - - and no-doubt 1200 letters of job applications.  I'm first in line - remember it was my idea - no, it was actually Cyberpet and her nature to complain to the top banana. (you might want her to write your letter and in the process she could set up shop in Sweden also )

It's a thought to yes, but i'm pretty sure Apple won't pick me for a manager anless i give it a shot myself (opening a store).
I don't think i can show them such an impressive carrier to make them think they need me as a manager
Still, it's a nice suggestion and it made me smile (positively).
The thing is that i don't really know what the near future will bring for me (meaning, Boston/Belgium or even another country).

I'm not sure what you mean with your friend, who has contacts or so?
You mean, he has contacts in USA or Belgium? for work offers? or with Apple?
Can you please enlighten me a little on this one, cause it sure sounds interesting.

Tell Cyberpet thanks for me to, and i'll say it to you
Thanks for the reply.

Sorry for the time-lag in responding - our last snow storm broke our telephone line and I live out in the country. After I was back online  nothing seemed right with my Outlook Express 5.0.2 and I was having problems with Internet Explorer as well.  I logged onto www.microsoft.com/mac/download/#OE and upgraded to OE 5.0.6 and did the same with /#IE All is OK once again.

I will be sending you an e-mail this weekend regarding you question.

Marcel........

Don't think it through too much. Get your visa, go to Boston, be with the person who's most important in your life.

The rest will sort itself out.

Have a great life.

"I love snow, but she doesn't really."

Well Marcel... I'm with Karman on that one!

Here in Calgary we haven't had as much snow... but more than usual for us... and it's bitter cold, -19C with a wind chill of -29C, it's been mostly that nasty wind blowing the snow around...
