Guardian goes republican - lower case 'r'
« on: July 25, 2013, 02:01:38 AM »
The Guardian has always been the paper that bucks the trend, or at least recognises that not all its readers think the same way...  Apple users feature large in its readership wink.gif

It appreciated that not all Brits are raving, drooling royalists suffering paroxysms of joy over the latest arrival (we learned from the BBC that US TV news channels were massively represented in the throng outside the hospital).

Anyway, it had the bright idea of adding a "Republican" button to its website so that non-royalists could avoid all mention of the impending birth, though I only became aware of it after a link took me to the CNET site - report here.

The royalist/republican button appears to have been removed since the sprog has now gone off with its parents for bit of peace and quiet, but the idea made me smile.

I have nothing bad to say about an attractive young couple and their newborn child; but is it possible to avoid an hour long Barbara Walters Special on ABC News?  I think they ought to name him Bubba; but only because Prince Bubba might spell the end of the world as we know it!
