OpenOffice posted an update last week and LibreOffice 4.1 has now taken those updates on and posted them:

And a bunch of extensions, including a Grammar Checker which I've needed for awhile not having been born with the English Teacher gene:

QUOTE
Berlin, July 25, 2013 – The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 4.1, not only the best but also the most interoperable free office suite ever. LibreOffice 4.1 features a large number of improvements in the area of document compatibility, which increases the opportunities of sharing knowledge with users of proprietary software while retaining the original layout and contents.

Interoperability is a key asset for LibreOffice, which is the de facto standard for migrations to free office suites since early 2012. Numerous improvements have been made to Microsoft OOXML import and export filters, as well as to legacy Microsoft Office and RTF file filters. Most of these improvements derive from the fundamental activity of certified developers backing migration projects, based on a professional support agreement.

Instrumental for interoperability are also new features such as font embedding in Writer, Calc, Impress and Draw – which helps in retaining the visual aspect when fonts used to produce the document are not installed on the target PC – and import and export functions new in Excel 2013 for ODF OpenFormula compatibility.

What I'm liking is that it's supposed to import VISIO and Microsoft Publisher files and I could use that.  Overall I like LibreOffice because it's stable and predictable and can read and write the files that I like it to!

I just used OO, I think, to import a .wmf 'image' file for my wife. I think I remember it reporting an update was available. We seldom use it (or LO) and it is sometimes frustrating to be trying to use an app and it wants to be updated... rolleyes.gif
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Correct, OpenOffice was just updated to 4.0 and LO to 4.1. I keep both updated and use whichever is most stable. My favorite of all those varieties was Symphony (IBM), but that is no longer being developed.

Ignore the argumentative nature of this poster. He is old and can't engage in meaningful dialog very long.
Therefore, management asks that you at least humor him. Thanks.

LO 4.1 seems a bit faster, it was a dog compared to Word or Neo-Office.
It does  pretty good job on Applework files.
It dropped support for PowerPC / 10.4-10.5 as well.
I've gotten use to MS Word in Mac-Office, though I like having Neo around and keeping up with Libre to pacify my curiosity.
It's been a confusing voyage with these alts. to MS Office, I've donated to all of them through the years with hope that someday I can be free from MS. Time will tell!
