"Disk not ejected" message--but I wasn't using one!
« on: August 03, 2013, 02:44:22 PM »
Hi, everyone!

I check my email before I go to bed, then log out of email, and quit Safari, and then choose SLEEP for my iMac (OS 10.6.8).

For the past two days, when I finally get to sit down at my computer in the late morning or afternoon, I see a popup message on my monitor.  I'm not using any disk!  I'm not using any pin drive although I do have SuperDuper on my desktop as my external hard drive.

What is going on and why am I getting this message about a disk was not ejected properly/eject before unplugging or turning off...etc...and what can I do about it??

Thanks!

Smiles,
Sooz

I assume you mean you are using SD to make backups on an external drive.

Is that correct?

If so, you are using a "disk." And, for some reason, when you put the Mac to 'sleep', that drive may be turning itself OFF. Can you tell us how it is connected and what brand/model drive it is? And how old? Space available?

It would help if you had some of your hardware and OS information in your profile that is displayed under you name/avatar. Since you haven't added that yet, we also need to ask you what Mac and which version of OS X you are using? Then we'll probably have more specific questions about your setup. wink.gif

BTW, you can put your info by using the "My Controls->Edit Profile Information->My Macs" section. thumbup.gif

I do have SuperDuper on my desktop as my external hard drive.

Do you mean that you have a cloned external drive? If that's so, launch SD and click Schedule to see if SD is trying to update your clone during the time in question. Reset if necessary. If that fails, I would contact the developer for advice. I couldn't find a SD preference file in the usual location but I did find a SD folder in ~/Library/Application Support. I don't want to tell you to play with anything in there so it would be best to go to the Shirt Pocket site and click Support to send an email.

It's possible that your clone has sustained some damage from being improperly ejected. Test it by booting from the external and running a few simple tasks, like Web surfing. If anything seems amiss, it would be a good idea to erase the external and re-clone.
