I foresee an entire different criminal enterprise of drone-jacking will be born about two days after they launch the first delivery!

I have visions of a drone battling the wind and rain here on the coast as it circles for hours trying to find our house—which the maps all say doesn't exist—until the drone runs out of juice and hits the Pacific with a mighty splash.  toothgrin.gif

Or the drone does find our house, drops the package, and before we can go grab it our local bear smells the fruit-scented soap and steals our package.  jawdrop.gif

Apparently they're already doing deliveries like this in the UK (probably shorter approval process)!

My wonderment comes from "high-density" housing….  whose window ledge do they leave the package on???   And visions of 'down the chimney' spring to mind.

And what do you do to all those yellow 'flight carriers' you accumulate… will we have to start paying a deposit and then return them to Amazon for a refund?

Is the 30 minute delivery time a guarantee??  and who will be the first to train their Rotweiler to track drones and retrieve packages from around the neighborhood??


I can see many an SNL skit being put together right now.

I can dream. After all, we got a FedEx hub at our airport because a small company sprang up and there were so many shipments coming and going that FedEx came to live—and that brought a small UPS center. So you never know. wink.gif  whistling.gif

I read a report today that claims a sentence in the proposed FAA regs explicitly says "Autonomous drones are prohibited." (it's on page 38 of the proposed regs, if you have a copy at the house...) The headline of the story pretty well summed things up: "Amazon Drones Rise Mostly on Hot Air" yes.gif But, any PR is good PR, I guess. dntknw.gif

I saw this on 60 Minutes. Even Bezos said that his drones were years away from implementation.
