Did you know that social media buttons allow Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, and others to track your online browsing activities on every site that includes one of these buttons, even if you never click the buttons and (in some browsers) even if you have third-party cookies disabled?

I'd not heard of this, but it also works in Chrome, so I'm trying it out. Thanks.

Didn't know about it. I do use <Ghostery> and <DoNotTrackMe>. The first one is free and often has Black List updates. the latter is from a company somehow involved (I think) in other businesses, so I'm somewhat skeptical about what they actually block or provide to those businesses. Paranoid.gif wink.gif They also have several apps with "Mask..." names, supposedly to mask your use of cell phones, credit cards, email addresses, etc. dntknw.gif I am using these in Chrome, have no idea if they work in Safari or any other browser.

Thanks for another source of (possible) security! Who knows if we are really protecting anything on the web?! flail.gif

According to yesterday's Daily Mail, your "smart" TV could be spying on you. Three pages of comments, some more serious and logical than others. Winston Smith gets quite a few mentions.

Bear in mind, though, that it's the Daily Mail...   wink.gif

However, when I was a kid, an ageing aunt used to cover her TV when it was not in use "so it couldn't watch her". Some thought she was a bit doolally but turns out she was just 60 years ahead of her time rolleyes.gif

My wife can't start her day with completing the daily crossword puzzle. She amuses me by sometimes asking me for help, knowing full well, that my ~250 word vocabulary is not a particularly useful resource. Frankly, I think it's what she thinks is a covert attempt to display her contempt of my language "skills." rolleyes.gif (I ended up with a minor in English simply because I took so many classes on the subject! She has never forgiven me or the college! wink.gif )

However, thanks to our British "agents" I now have a word that she did not know!! clap.gif Thanks, Neil! Unfortunately, when I confronted her with my newly gained knowledge, she said it would be helpful in describing me to her friends! Win some, lose some and the rest get rained out... laughhard.gif

Speaking of TV, on the news this morning they were talking about being SURE you turned off your smart phones when you shop in a mall.
Otherwise you will be tracked. I didnt hear the entire thing, as I was in the kitchen, but is this true?

Yep. The phone is nothing more than radio transmitter/receiver. You can turn the whole thing off but it might be better to just use 'Airplane' mode and the 'Do Not Disturb' mode on the iPhone. But this 'tracking' is nothing new, even before 'smart' phones, the carriers would/could send you a message or a call when you entered their area; your phone always contacts any cell tower it can so the phone company can know how to reach you. Retailers can do similar things, of course. Might be something to Google during your free time. smile.gif
