I've just started receiving requests for Facetime on my iMac. I don't use this and don't wish to use it. Is there a way to totally disable it and deny all incoming messages? Also, how do I find out who these were/are from without accepting their invitation?

Take a look at the Notifications Pref Panel. There should be a list of apps that can send notifications. Select FaceTime and set the 'style' to None and make sure all the checkboxes are UNed. wink.gif There is also a "Do Not Disturb" choice at the top of that list, however, it doesn't seem to have any effect. Finally, there is a "Notification Center" icon in your Menu Bar (looks like an icon for a list of items... which it actually is, of course). At the very top is another "Do Not Disturb" slider, I assume it will disable notifications totally, as the one in the Pref Panel should. wallbash.gif

doh.gif I think the critical item in the Pref Panel is the checkbox for FaceTime labeled: "Show in Notification Center:" Uncheck that and you should not see any more 'invites.' Anything item you "UN" will be moved to the bottom of that list, below the "Not in Notification Center." thumbup.gif

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES

I suggest contacting the NSA. If they don't respond, try Mr. Snowden. dntknw.gif

I think I've had one notification. I assume they would only come from people who know my Apple email addy's. I've never even looked at the app! blush-anim-cl.gif Can't be from friends, of course, since I don't have any! tears.gif Thinking.gif hummnnn(sp?)... maybe some recent Canadian TS members?! eek2.gif

Thanks for the info. I turned off the notifications. No idea who would contact me as I didn't think anyone knew my apple id. Obviously I was wrong. wink.gif

I'm not sure they have to know your Apple ID, I would hope not, anyway. When I opened FT, it asked me to log into the Apple cloud. It then displayed a list of some of my Apple email accounts and my iPhone number. As far as I know, it's basically a video chat system that uses iCloud. If you've ever sent anything with your iCloud addy to anyone, and they also have FT, they can use the system. Nothing more nefarious than that. And, if you have ever registered a Mac, you have an iCloud account and an email address, whether you use it or not. That's my opinion, anyway. It appears that everyone in your Contacts list is accessible with FT, assuming it is compatible with whatever video chat app they might have. dntknw.gif

So, another way to avoid these notifications might be to open FT and remove any of the "You can be reached ... at: info. wink.gif Oh, yeah, you can also turn FT "Off/On" on that screen.

I suppose all this complaining means some of us can't share computer room pictures? tears.gif

BTW, here's something to do while you're bored and have a  w i d e  monitor. Grab the FT window and drag it from one side of the screen/monitor to the other while watching yourself. Notice that your eyes move to seemingly watch the side of the screen you are moving from and to! AMAZING! How do they do that? I'm sure those who felt the scrolling change made in Mountain Lion have complained about that, already! laughhard.gif   I may try turning my monitor upside down and see if it still does that... wacko.gif flail.gif

I gotta go, we're putting our Christmas tree and decorations back to 'bed' today...

After turning FT ON, I heard a 'email arrived' sound. Here's what it said:
QUOTE
Dear James LastName,
Your Apple ID (MyMainAppleEmailAccount@mac.com) was used to sign in to FaceTime on an iMac 27" named “James’s iMac”. [Please check your grammar and spelling rules!]

Time: January 3, 2014
Operating System: Mac OS X,10.9.1,13B42

If you recently signed in to this device, you can disregard this email.

If you have not recently signed in to an iMac with your Apple ID and believe someone may have accessed your account, you should reset your password at My Apple ID.

PS: Please stop worrying about this and go back to buy more Apple products!
OK, I added that last sentence. blush-anim-cl.gif blush2.gif boredom.gif tomato.gif

After sharing this info with Sneakers he suggested it might be better to allow the notifications so that I know when someone is trying to access my computer/camera/facetime thingy. I can always hit deny. I also turned Facetime OFF.

No such email received here.  Thinking.gif

Ah! You must still be wearing your Mrs. Claus dress?

As further proof of how small the world is, especially the Mac one, MacFixIt had a blurb about setting/changing the Snooze time. One poster just wanted to know how to turn Notification Off, for everything, for all time! wink.gif I gave him your email address... tease.gif scram.gif
