Master and Slave?
« on: February 23, 2003, 11:58:00 PM »
Some here might of seen my thread on picking up another 933.
Having said that.

The 933 came with the stock IBM ATA/66 60gb hard drive.

I set it up into three (OS 9,apps and OS X) partitions.
I am very pleased with how it flys.
BUT I found a great deal on a new ATA/100 80gb Western Digital 8mb cashe buffer hard drive.

So I installed the WD as the master and the IBM as the slave.
Yet I could NOT get the IBM to be recognized as the slave!?!

Took the whole casing out and double checked the jumper setting again.
The WD is easy but the IBM has two conflicting settings which both do the same [as a slave] function. One says just use "one" jumper and the other says to use "two" jumpers?
#One says to use the jumper horizontally between the last two top pins on the right.
#Two says to do the same -only- the second jumper goes between the two pins on the bottom on the right.

I only tried #two because my brain cells was konking out real fast last night. <gr>
So I disconnected the cables to the slave and partitioned the master WD and installed the OS's plus all the other goodies and apps, programs etc etc.

Runs Great with the WD as the master by itself.

I haven't been able to find any info on whether the IBM is compatible with the WD,although I can't see why not.

My gut feeling is I'm screwing up some how with the jumpers.

Anyone have some imput on this little puzzle that I'm over looking?

---------
Second problem I just found out about is my 'mail' in Jag 10.2.4. guits as soon as I fire it up?

Thanks Kelly for the link.

the only problem I got is I'm on the new one now with no printer.

Have to shut this one down and fire up the other to print.

Does seem I've got the jumpers wrong thern ... pehaps.

That (your link) did it Kelly!

I had the IBM jumpers horizontally when I should of had them vertically.

I didn't really like the way the X partition was on the WD.
So once I found the hidden secret about the IBM jumpers and checked if all was OK,I used CCC to copy X over the X partition on the WD.
Even fixed my 'mail' problem. <gr>

Thanks Kelly.

Now I'm off to wipe the IBM drive clean and do whatever.

Bill,

Did you find a used 933? If so where did you get it?
I've been looking for one.

The one I bought is used but the tech I took it to checked for wear and said it's close to new.

You just have to look around * a lot * Gary S.

Fact is I just saw one in my local bargain paper this morning.
He sold it an hour after the ad went up.
