Do I need adobe flash player?
« on: June 13, 2014, 02:31:13 PM »
I thought I'd uninstalled this thing, but this morning I had an alert about an update. I verified it was real, and then installed it—yeah, I hadn't yet had my coffee yet. Now I'm wondering if I actually need it with Chrome. I don't care if FF or Safari don't play videos, and Chrome does the "sandbox" thing, so do I truly need this gadget? If not, how do I uninstall it?

Nope, not for Chrome. It has it's own, "sandboxed" player. That's why I started using it. Unfortunately, there are/were other security problems with it, so I'm back to Safari. I still use Glimmerblocker that removes most "animated" (Flash) adds in all browsers.

I suspect you still have the Adobe Auto Downloader stuff still installed somewhere. I'm not sure where it is but it will probably continue to alert you of updates to Flash and other Adobe stuff (Reader?). Strangely, I have an "Adobe Flash Player Install Manager.app" when run it shows:

App name in Finder/PathFinder:

I think the functions that 'beg' for your attention are in the "/Library/Adobe/AAMUpdater" or "../Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory". There are LaunchAgents as well as LaunchDaemons that do things behind your back! eek2.gif wink.gif

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

In my setup, the path to Adobe's Application Manager (the app that flexes it muscles when it senses an Adobe update) is:

/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/PDApp/Core/Adobe Application Manager.app

Straightforward, isn't it?   wallbash.gif

Wasn't "OOBE" one of the robots in Star Wars... or was that it's mother? Thinking.gif
