I've only used hubby's iPad a few times, but I remember pressing on an icon until this "X" appeared, and all the other icons wiggled (and scared me to pieces because I thought I'd broken his new iPad!). Then I held onto that icon and dragged it to the side and the next screen was visible and I dropped the icon where he wanted it.

But my memory could be all wrong here.  dntknw.gif

First, have you re-booted lately? How much space (RAM) used and available?

I've always found the sideways movement to be tedious and frustrating. Two other ways:
    1. Use iTunes with the iPad connected, of course. Just select you iPad in the left-hand column (should be in the "DEVICES" list. Now, select the "Apps" tab. You should now see a list of all the apps (and whether they are installed or not). Just to the right of that list should be a miniature display of all screen you have. You can select an app on one screen and drag it to another screen (that has enough room).*
    2. Drag the icon to the bottom 'bar' (assuming you don't already have four icons down there. Now change to the screen you want and drag the app off that bottom 'bar.'
Note: It may just be the newest version of iTunes (11.2.2) I have, but to move apps around there are now a few additional steps:
    1. Double-click the screen containing the app you want to move (that screen will enlarge for your viewing pleasure)
    2. Click and hold the app you want to move
    3. Drag it to the screen you want
Be aware that apps you have installed will come up with that little "X" on it. Be careful not to actually click that "X" unless you really want to. Of course, even if you accidentally 'Delete' the app, you can still find it in the list and drag its icon back onto a screen.

Usually dragging an icon to the left of the screen, slide to the second one but that seems to have stop working  Thinking.gif

Dragging  the icon to the  bottom bar is ok for moving  smile.gif

When was the last total shutdown/Reboot?

How often do you make a backup?

If this just started, you might want to Restore from that last backup. If you don't know when it started, a Restore may not help at all, however.

Have you installed any new apps in the last few months?

Do you have any apps that are not up-to-date?

While I agree that you have a problem, I'm not aware this being a "bug" in either the iPad 2 or iOS 7. Have you seen reports that it is a bug in either the hardware or software? dntknw.gif

Here are two different sites where others have reported having the same problem.Note that none of these problems were solved by a "bug" fix or an iOS change. The real problem was that people were being too impatient in trying to move the icon. smile.gif A computer will usually do what you ask it, but it sometimes needs your help.

Interweb searching is a great tool for problem solving... Apple's Support Community is a great place to start with an absolutely huge number of problems/solutions. thumbup.gif

You are not the only one to notice the behavior. But the solution seems to work for everyone. Just requires patience and careful selection of the icon. dntknw.gif

Bad interface design? Probably. Bug? Not really. Same machine/hardware works for people with slightly different sized fingers and/or timing. wink.gif
